Thanks for your info. Don't know what is my idle RPM setting. Since our cars shared same engine (M54B25) but different chasis, believe our MAF reading should be the same, isn't it? What is your fuel consumption (? L/km)

Calibration of idle rpm. Is DIS function in the scanner?

My car is running a little rich based on the fuel trims readings and explanation from GT1. Perhaps the O2 sensors is sluggish. I average close to 13 L/KM (70% City 30% HW).
I am still troubleshooting, I checked the DISA today, cleaned the ICV too, DIY. The DISA is in very good condition. I have all along suspect the O2 sensors are sluggish, I am still trying to find a way to plot the graph of voltage vs time (some software have this feature) to confirm before I change out the O2 sensors.
I did the Vanos seals DIY too but did not get to clean the vanos solenoids (which I think it should be done when changing the seals) as I did not have the o-ring which I needed then. Original BMW o-rings cost more than RM30/pc , I managed to get viton orings for a few bucks but have not got the time to do it yet.

DIS or GT1 by another name has a function to calibrate the idle RPM.

Pang,

Thanks for above. I believe your fuel consumption @13L/100km is on the high side. Most likely your pre-cat 02 sensors have degraded. As for my case of higher readings (15 aircon OFF & 20 aircon ON) from live data of MAF, believe my MAF has degraded. Am now thinking whether to get a new MAF.

my car MAF reading(15 aircond off & 20 aircond on) for M54B22. should i get a new MAF?

Bro,

What is your fuel consumption ( x L/100 km)?

I don't think you want to change the MAF , if it ain't broken or the FC is unusually high. As long as it is within tolerance, the engine adaptation will take care of it.

What is important is that the reading (V) is proportional to the throttle position.

I think one way to check is to connect the BMW Scanner. get the MAF readings at different RPMs (e.g. idle, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 , 3000 .....) plot a graph on the kg/hr against rpm, you should get a linear graph. At the same time, you may want to do one for the injection timing.
I want to do this but no time lah.

To maintain a constant RPM, just get a stick and anchor it between the driver seat and the fuel pedal.
Move the electric seat forward to increase RPM and backward to decrease RPM..

The above only works with electric seat.

Please check from live data what are your MAF readings (air-con OFF & air-con ON). TQs

Mine was around 11.7 (off aircon) and around 14.5 (on air con) during idling position.

im running around 11.7L/100km.

Thanks nitedevil. 11.7L/100km is still on the high side. I just did an outstation drive to Genting highlands and recorded 9L/100 km on my e39 525i with average speed of 120 to 140 km/hr.

On the new MAF, a forummer must have read this thread and purchased the last set of new VDO MAF from Bomin Auto. All other spare parts shops no stock.

My last reading around 10.6L/Km (long never reset)

After reset while driving from Sepang to PD along secondary roads about 9.5L/Km. (avg speed 100km/h)

Not bad for long distance drive. You think our MAF has degraded with the high readings (15 & 20)? Very tempting to get a new MAF.

Not sure it could be the MAF. Low reading at 11kg/hr could be due to chocked air filter.

bro jarance..have any N42B20 successfully view the live data from the 1.4 scanner?

kby88 car is e46/318i/n42 - he say his car does not have live data.

Jarance,

Would be good to check the readings of a new/good MAF. Can you check what should be the normal readings for a good MAF? I searched many sites and couldn't get any answer. Any bros here in the forum could help out?

is it for all N42 or is it because of software update etc? Are all of N42 that can't view their live data having the latest S/W update? n i think bro Aidij also an N42 owner right? his DIY scanner is equivalent to 1.4 scanner or not? really hoped this scanner works with N42

I think daiichi have the same engine as us and he also have the scanner. i will try to call him to confirm.

ichi82, yes mine is an N42B20 but my DIY OBD interfaces (GT1/DIS and ELM327) are not the same as 1.4 scanner. And I haven't tried the scanner on my machine either, not that I have it. Cheers.

wow....can we really do this......?perhaps the stories that we have heard about dealers adjusting the mileage is true?
