Dear Beemer folks,My 1999 BMW 528 need a new set of tyres. :elefant:I place good wet grip and ride smoothness as priority.Which tires do any of you beemer drivers recommend highly? :55: D.Tan

What is your budget and what size?
I used to use Pirelli Dragon which is pretty good for the price. Now switch the rear two to Pirelli P-Zero which is great but expensive.

Choose Continental Tyres, Best!! No Regret! But Make Sure Import From Oversea Not From Malaysia

Michelin PS2's if you have the budget, have tested most of the tyres above nothing comes close..and they are quite durable as well for something that stick like glue...

Yeah.....Michelin Is Superb in Terms Of Grip.....But Like A Rubber.....Everyday Rub Rub Rub....BOTAK Soon~~~ Hahah!!!

Continental Tyre Can Last Longer Although It Loose In Grip....

The best value is...

Just my opinion...

For the best price with the nicest grip with solid feeling you can really feel, you simply can't overlook the Falken 452 !:42:
It is decently quiet (almost as good as the Michelin PP2) and decent smooth comfort.
It will also work very well on Mercedes E class.

About the highly talked about MichelinPP2 :
I had them last year.
Yes, they are decently quiet and do provide a fairly good grip in wet or dry but the MichelinPP2 will also give you an unwelcome uneasy feeling (minute vibrations/resonance) after 100km usage. These tyres were balanced several times and also had on-car balancing
The irritations becomes more pronounced with true drivers car like a BMW or even an Audi. The PP2 does not absorb rough roads nicely when compared to even cheaper tyres such as Goodyear NCT5 or the Continental Comfort 1.
You can read about the PP2 negatives in other forums (asiaone.sg, wheelsforum.au)

Is the Michelin PS 2 a fairly comfort tyre as well? I read about it's performance achievements in track tyre evaluations but the next model down which is MichelinPP2's irritating comfort really took it's toll on me and my family and made me look elsewhere for everyday driving.

I almost bought the Pirelli Zero but changed my mind after sitting in a friend's car.
This was mainly bacause I am not sure of Pirelli Zero Rosso's noise supression ability. My friend had them on his EVO car with loud exhaust blasting!

The Pirelli Dragon, I was told is not exactly a decent quiet tyre so that's why I avoided it for family comfort.

Toyo T1R is another good tyre but it seem that there are a number of complaints particularly from Msians and Singaporeans about it's performance when the weather gets too hot in the afternoon.
You can read about the T1R negatives in other forums (autoworld, asiaone, cardriver.com, modernmotor)

I am fairly happy with the Falkens 452 on my 530 beemer.
:dancing:

But like many others, the quest for a better tire continues.

samsam,

is it PS2 or PP2?... I confuse bcos PP is Pilot Preceda and PS is Pilot Sports...so which is which?

My personal Experience with PS2 is even now with 40% thread, is that its still sticking like glue...on the road and on the track.

You can get any tire.

As long as its 285/25/20 for the rear and 255/30/20 for the front. :p

I'd have to agree with XXX and BMRocket. After tasting the PS2's, there is not quite a tyre like it. Perfect blend of comfort and performance.

Could someone confirm this?

Is the above recommended sizes for the BMW 5 series correct?
I myself own 2- 5 series(530 2004 model and 528 2000 model) and is unaware of this size requirement.

How much does the Pilot sport (ps)2 cost for a beemer 5? Is it quiet? Currently I'm on Bridgestone Adrenalin for the 2000 model. It is not so good around corners when it rains.

bmw5man

k3nny is just pulling a fast one, its like you can have any colour as long as its black, no doubt those sizes would be awesome on any ride but its not practical on our roads or for everyday use....unless money is plucked from trees

PS2 last I know was RM1300 for 265/35/18 and RM1100 for 245/40/18.

so kenny was joking :burnout:

Whew! Kenny was joking hor.
I almost fell for it.

Just thinking of the PS 2 tyre cost makes me shiver. :18:
I nearly fell off my office chair.

mmm which continental please?
falken 452 noisy right? no?
I am on Adrenalin. It is still in good cond but cornering in the wet is really average tahts why I am considering to change it at a price loss.

I dunno abt others but some how or rather I feel the japanese/korean tyres dont seem to go well with continental cars....especially the heavier ones..anybody else feel that way..

most important

watever tyre u use as long as the most important thing is for u to have spare tyre yeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaa  :thefinger:

P S 2 very exclusive

Spending RM4k plus on tyres (pilot sport 2) will probably make my wife behave like Janice Dickinson!

Any cheaper alternatives?

Which tyres have you guys had on your beemers previously? What did you not like about your former tyres?
This way at least I could gather some meaningful comparison.

Pp2

Agree with xxx that Jap or Korean tyres don't seems to well with heavy continental cars. PS2 is fantastic as I used it before but cannot tahan the price now on PP2 which is also very good.

Tyre

I formerly had MichelinPP2 made by michelin japan . They are irritating because of their propensity to minute imperfections on our roads. Too much of an uneasy feeling. Otherwise they were decently quiet and had good grip. My new Falken452 has a better compromise in my case. It is much smoother and grip better than MichelinPP2 with a very very slight added "road grip" noise.

I am very surprise that no one from the committee have come out to suggest any less costlier tyres.
