Bro,

Very good FC. What is your ride?

The FC display from your car is not necessary correct that is why BMW allow you to calibrate that reading.

bro, the above works out to be about 900 to 810 KM for a full tank (assuming 60 liter fuel tank) -

As pointed out by IanD, the reading on the instrument is not 100% accurate.

To do a more accurate FC, you should
1. Fill to completely FULL the fuel tank and reset the odometer.
2. Drive around until the reserve fuel light comes on.
3. Fill to completely FULL again and note down the amount of liters require to fill.
4. Note the odometer reading.
5. Divide the liters (step. 3) / Odometer reading (step. 4)

Step 1 to 5 should give a more accurate Fuel Consumption for your ride.

BMW actually describe a method to get the real FC and calibrate the BC reading very much like what Jarance has described. You can actually calibrate using the BC button.

From what I gathered most modern BMW FC can be easily calibrated by the owner, it is a simple procedure. The above is just one example of the application.

Basically you will need to get into the 'Hidden OBC function' Test No. 20 and change the value there.

Quote from another forum:

To check: increase the value to lower the OBC reading and vice versa. I'm using 1080, making the reading by 8.0% and pretty good readings now. With reference to the OBC tests, some are locked.
The Factor can be found in Test 20 of the Hidden OBC functions. If Test 19 shows LOCK: ON you need to enter a number to unlock it to gain access to the hidden tests. The reset (LH button) increments the number from 0 to 45 then back to 0 and so on. The number you need to enter is the sum of the last 5-digits of the VIN number (e.g. VIN = BJ23412 add 2+3+4+1+2 = 12) then press the right hand button and volla the OBC is unlocked!

From Hidden OBC function, Test no 5 give you the real time Fuel consumption. Whereas on Consumption 1 and 2 in MID gives you the average consumption.

Aduii...so much of work...hehehehe

Think about so much work, just drive, no petrol just pump full tank. Forget about all these fuel consumption calculations. Knowing it is siok sendiri sahaja.

Thats what I did.

Sometimes better not to know too much otherwise pocket selalu koyat. Case to point is my MAF. Car runs very smooth but plug in scanner and got MAF live data 15 & 20. No error codes whatsoever. Now gatal want to buy new MAF.

Well gatal no need to garu sometimes... just put ointment :p

Mine is E46 320i

I actually did a 3 full tank test (been few months now) here is the data:

Before change;

RM100 based FC (Ron 95)

Average (#3) = 385 km

After

Average (#3) = 420 km...

Like i said it may not be accurate but this is what ive got from my own observation... BTW i drive like someone who just got his father car after K&N change cause car is more responsive... maybe could have gotten more km...

But i will redo the test starting from next RM 100 fuel to warning light (i only fill in when km to fuel pump >60) usually around the 45-5o ish zone

Then again, with more responsive engine who cares about FC... i just siok sendiri i guess :p

I think a more accurateway is to start counting the mileage with full-tank, after say a certain mileage (say 400km, note down mileage 1) refill to full tank (note down the volume 1 in litres). Repeat this up to 3 times.
(Vol1 + Vol2 + Vol3) / (KM1 + KM2 + KM3) X 100
This will give you L/100KM

You may want to use GPS mileage as there is a certain margin of errors with the speedo especially if you have change to rims/tyres. Bigger dimension rims will almost certainly be bad for FC because of moment of inertia.

Ive changed to 18" Rims so i think FC will be more worse... so its ok :) Im happy for what it is now...

Just bought a new MAF (Siemens/VDO) from Bavarian Auto. Will test MAF live data tonite and revert.

Guys,

It is confirmed that my old MAF has degraded. Tested live data from new MAF and readings are:

Approx. 11.5 kgm/hr - aircon OFF (used to be 15 - 16 kgm/hr)
Approx. 16.0 kgm/hr - aircon ON (used to be 19 - 21 kgm/hr)

Fuel consumption has gone down to 9.5 L/100 km (used to be 12.5 to 13.5) city driving with medium to hard footing on accelarator.
