Thank hky for the info. Just got a laptop with win 7 - 64 bits after my old laptop have died.

Will try both programs. I heard from my frien that there is another VM called Virtual Box.
It was done by Sun and now is taken over by Oracle.

btw, the FTDI USB download was for AMD64 cpu. no wonder it wont install the driver.

hi Jarance,

I tot all the drivers is in the downloaded zip files? labeled in different folder, i have tried all the folders but failed to get it recognized in the 64-bit.

The 64 bits was designed for AMD CPU. For intel chip it is only up to 32-bits. So unfair lar considering that Intel is more in the market.

Only managed to use the scanner today. What is the bold sentence mean for? Important kah?

Hi,

I manage to get the BMW Scanner to work on Win 7 64-bit. There are 2 ways to go about it

Option 1
Install VMWare Workstation, then create a Virtual Machine (VM) and install Windows XP, You will need to attached the USB Scanner to the VM for it to be detected.

Pro - easy to install, Con - you will need to get a license copy, unless ....

Option 2
Install XP Mode with Virtual PC on the Win 7 64-bit, you can download both from here
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

Once you have installed both, then you will need to run Windows XP Mode under Windows Virtual PC. This will start up a Win XP inside the Win 7, then just go ahead and install the BMW Scanner and attach the USB Scanner.

Pro - No additional license required and you don't need to install Win XP, its already there after installation of the XP Mode, Con - the files are a few hundred megs

Just found out that the virtual PC does not work on Win 7 Home Premium. It work on Profrssional or Premier version.

Yup that is correct, thought you are not using home premium. That's why I had to go the VMware route, for VMware you'll be fine as long as you have a windows XP installation DVD. Be it Original or Original Copy.

errr.. my bloody laptop accer timeline dont have CD drive.. ha..ha.. look like have to use virtual drive.
Problem is that most of my collection of utility software are all Xp based. Found many old software are not compactible. df

Good News guys!..

I have managed to get the USB driver to work in Win7-64 bits without using Vware or VirtualPC or VirtualPC.

Just manuplate some settings.

Bad News is I forgot how to redo it again.. Ha..ha..

I need to uninstall the driver and take screenshot as I go along..

Bro jarance i would need that (win 7 64bit installer)... cant get the cold-ones for you tho since we are sea apart:p

BTW

These are my fault codes... and im particularly worried about few item since i do not know how to hard code the item in my system...

O2 sensor about to fail. This sensor is for monitoring and does not affect your performance.

32/14 - Activation, solenoid valve, fuel-circuit changeover
Check the fuel line after the fuel pump. There is a solenoid there.

85/08 - Signal, CAN ASC 3
Stray alarm. Not to worry. try to clear this.

7E/12 - Activation, solenoid valve, tank-leak diagnosis pump
see error 32/14

7F/02 - Activation, solenoid valve, suction-jet pump
see error 32/14

ABS -> 95/00 - CAN timeout DME/DDE
Clear this alarm

82/00 - REF-voltage error
78/00 - Vehicle power > 18 Volt
Check your alternator. your charging voltage is too high. use live data to monitor the voltage as well.

SRS -> 1A/83 - Seat occupancy recognition 1 (SBE1)
check seat sensor

IKE -> CE/61 - Outside-temperature sensor
Check outside sensor

BE/88 - Data-filing difference to central light module (LCM)
DOnt know what is this.

LCM -> Shadow-memory:

Check all the bulb and clear the alarm

xcrave, regarding the win7-64bits, I can only get it to work with my 3-in-1. Let me sort it out first.

You and rubes will one the first to know once I find the solution.

LCM -> Shadow-memory:
33/21 - Sidelight, front right
38/21 - Sidelight, front left
3C/23 - Licence plate light

These are HID changed (plate LED)

Need to hardcode it i heard from other bimmer forum but they are using GT1 so does not apply any wok around?

82/00 - REF-voltage error
78/00 - Vehicle power > 18 Volt
Check your alternator. your charging voltage is too high. use live data to monitor the voltage as well.

For this one... can it be programed? Cause my Alternator is actually 14V 120A but not sure about the 18V... after clear the errors...

After Clear error:

DME -> Shadow-memory:
85/08 - Signal, CAN ASC 3
7E/12 - Activation, solenoid valve, tank-leak diagnosis pump
7F/02 - Activation, solenoid valve, suction-jet pump

IKE -> CE/41 - Outside-temperature sensor

LCM -> Shadow-memory:
33/21 - Sidelight, front right
38/21 - Sidelight, front left
3C/21 - Licence plate light

BTW really need to know how to install item in Win 7 64bit... VM ware is a mega leech on ram/CPU... not to mention network proble... have to disable VM virtual cables...

if your os is win 7 pro or higher, you can use window virtualpc and run xp mode. it free
