Bro J,

How to reach this step ?

1. Start Scanner Program and press "Scan!" button to detect all modules. When DME module is detected, click on "DME"
Livedataselect.jpg

2. At "DME" sub Menu, press "Live data" (if available and depend on the model)

I think the Live data have something to do with the type of DME or ECU installed in the car.
The info is available page.

bro, what is the above (LTFT, STFT)????

Long Term Fuel Trim and Short Term Fuel Trim. I think it is used to in the closed loop operation of the air-fuel mixture. To compensate for inaccurate readings from aging parts like O2 and MAF etc.

Fir, ask adilj for some help.. I think he may find some work around solution if he can get his hand on the scanner to play with it.

The DME cannot be found if the engine is not started . Does this happen to you guys as well ?
I am just thinking, what if there are DME faults which prevent the car from being started and you cannot see the codes, how to troubleshoot !

I think DME codes are probably stored in other modules as well (General Module , ZKE perhaps).

Actually, for some test like Oil Reset and Cluster Light Test, you have to OFF the engine to do it.

This mean the key position need only to be selected to "Accessory" only.

I dont think you have to have the engine started to read the DME. However, if the engine is not running, then live data is also meaningless.

Welcome to the It-Can't-Read-OBD1-Live-Data Club. To quote Mr Jarance,

Solo, dont blame the scanner lar.
M43 engine is the built from from 1999 till 2001 before it was replace by N42 and later by N46 engine.
In fact, M43 engine are use for E36 which is ODB-1 compliance. It a wonder that BMW ca modify it to be OBD-II compliance.

My E36 also cannot be read by the scanner. Now trying to make it to be OBD-II compliance.

Salut

Yeah that is possible but since E36 is not officially listed by PA soft as supported/tested this would be hard. May need to go to INPA route.

According to the PA Soft version 1.3.6, it can read the data from E30, E36 and E46. Only difference is the cable.

So in theory, it can be done since Ver 1.3.6 can do it. Maybe, it have something to do with the pin out.
