Poor E39

Curi the photo from Paultan web page. Such a serious crash for the E39. Glade the driver & passenger are save.

Actually non-collapsible poles like this are not safe for road users - too stiff and would cause more damage and injuries especially when it's not shielded from direct collision impact.

But still, more importantly, drive safe.

If FWD car... snapped into 2 halves liao..

Maybe, maybe not.... One thing for sure, road cars are not made to handle impact in a side collision with a stiff narrow object like this... 20 airbags oso no use.

Side collision with a tree / lampost, car will lose... No fight...

Remember this:

By NELSON BENJAMIN AND JOANNE LIM KUALA LUMPUR: The second son of the late tycoon Tan Sri Loy Hean Heong was killed when his car crashed into a tree at the 3rd kilometre of the Sprint Highway near the National Science Centre at 2.45am yesterday.

Loy Teik Hok, 39, was driving home alone after meeting some friends in Sri Hartamas when the accident occurred. He was minutes away from reaching his house in Bukit Damansara. Teik Hok is Taylor’s Education Group executive committee chairman. He leaves behind wife Abby Loy and three children aged four, nine and 12.
City traffic police investigation officer Chief Insp Nurhisham Hashim said Teik Hok was driving a S320 Mercedes Benz.
“We believe that he lost control of the car, causing it to hit the road divider.
The car then swung to the left and crashed into a tree,” he said adding that police were informed of the accident by a passer-by.
“The Sri Hartamas Fire and Rescue Department and staff of Sprint Highway took three hours to remove the body from the wreckage,” he said.
Teik Hok’s elder brother, Datuk Loy Teik Ngan, 42, said they were informed about 6am and rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

TRAGIC: Teik Hock was killed when his S320 Mercedes Benz crashed into a tree along the Sprint Highway early Wednesday. Teik Hong was Taylor's Education Group executive committee chairman.
He said it was not true that his brother was high on alcohol when he met with the accident as Teik Hok was never known to be a drinker. Those who saw the accident are urged to contact C/I Nurhisham at 03 20729044.
News of the accident came as a shock to staff and students at Taylor’s College, where Teik Hok was to attend the college’s 10th Annual Inter-school debate finals later yesterday.

Speed kills. Simple. A car does not wrap around a tough narrow object unless the impact was great. What is our life worth?

Ouch!! I cringe to look at that image. Sad to see another e39 go into the great highway above :(

..........

Wonder what price the owner wants to sell the rims at :p

In the US its federal law to have all traffic lights, lamp posts and signs to snap easily at the base the moment anything collides into it to protect the occupants of the colliding vehicle.

it should be a collapsable pole..not built so tough to slice the vehicles..and they talking about enforcing speed cameras?..I thought it was an edited picture cos i cant believe that pole so strong like a big tree and not even a slight bend..daammnn!!

Now can understand why Volvo developing the auto brake system to ensure less damage from secondary impact.
