how the slim post caused such damage to the E39 im still baffled :|

It's because the pole was slim and not designed to break off that it caused so much damage. All the force concentrated in a small area.

wow..to see both bmw and merc with higher safety aspect could end up like that, so no wonder our malaysian made car could broke into two! scarryyy....

Sideways, no pole also can be scary maaa

hi bros, i was there at the accident, i dont know how true is this, but the driver ran away. and the passenger was stuck. but hes ok. this happen at jb, just opposite traffic police station. the officer came by walking over with his camera.lol. he lost control from a bend just before the accident loc. it was drizzling, so guess hes speeding. however, we should always not try the lamp post in future.

The lamp post location is a hazard - too close to the road. Furthermore, there's no railing to prevent direct impact. In an accident, no one knows where the car will end up. Easy to say to avoid the lamp post, trees etc but if can control the car then there's no accident aledi in the first place... ;)

Haywire, not sure if i wanna thank you for making me watch that...but damn is that real ? I cant believe it....and the by standers doesnt look too shocked...gosh...

Anyway...drive safe and be safe.

Well, how real do you want it to be? If you searched 'Arab drifting' you'll see many many videos of Arabs doing drifting on straight public roads, dodging cars, buses, lorries, anything. It makes no sense, best thing is when they get to the end of the road they turn back and drift against the flow. Thats crazy.

I suspect that was what they were doing went it all went wrong in the video that I posted. Thats why there are many bystanders with camera waiting at the side of the road.

No wonder it looks familiar. I think I know the owner

"Vibrations are deadly" would probably be my best way of explaining this. Considering that the lamppost is one of those beautification ones, it's insanely reinforced to support the weight of the blings, extremely thin to minimize impact area or in short, it's made to kill.

That alone won't be so bad but at high speed impacts, the pole vibrates at an insane pace thus causing repeated damage at a single point repeatedly. The car is partially suspended clearly showing signs of that happening and well, from high speed collision as well.

Real life tools that uses these theory includes the vibroblades and vibro hammers. They vibrate at insane speeds and in the case of the blade, it could saw through bull bones in a matter of seconds (my bone and ivory saddles on my guitars were cut using the same tool). The hammer however utilizes speed + repetitive strikes speeding up metal fatigue (nails and things thats made to be hammered aside lol) or damage.

The pole in this sense and again just my 2cents worth of theory (I'm just a guy who's in aviation not a scientist) is a primitive combination of both the tools mentioned. Though it's not as effective as either, it's still bad. Long thin pole, high speed impact by large mass, and (rain?). In some cases, speed is gained whilst losing control. I doubt this was a mechanical failure and I don't see a point in deadly beautification.
