but then again, if the billionaires can do it and pay USD20 million to fly to space, why cant he? but in this case, we rakyat are paying for his flight to go up....and come down.

anyways, if one of u guys was in his place, u woudln't be complaining right? although when ppl ask u, what are u contributing to the mission? u can say proudly, 'i'm going to see how teh tarik will taste when i try to tarik it in zero-grav'. m'sia boleh mar....

Anyway, his trip is an incentive from Russia when Malaysia purchase their plane, many years ago. Should have reject the incentive and have discount from the purchase or cheaper maintainance fee.

Seems like others have thier own missions & important duties on board, but our "canornaut" like tumpang-tumpang for sigh-seeing ler..., opps, almost forgot, he got also important duties >> he will do various experiments on infamous Malaysian foods on space lah.., and also to take some photos by using his own pocket digital camera out there personally (by very own Malaysian), so we Malaysia do not have to beg for outer space photos from Nasa or Rusia maa...

it's not a waste of money. Malaysian will do this sooner or later..better sooner!
It's just one of those things that we should all do, and we have a fellow malaysian to represent us out there.
it's a symbolic step for us and we should be proud of it.
it would be better if it was our own Proton Shuttle but that is a long ways to go, so in the meantime...

I love my country no matter how much I hate the ppl that run it.

For my opinion, is not the time yet for us to explore outer space world, as you know, our technology is not there yet..., maybe another 10 years time.

There are still many many areas for us to explore & improve..., but not space yet lah.

Our Doc. Sheikh's status on board the Russian soyuz is a spacefflight participant. Peggy's status is a commander, and Yuri's status is the flight engineer. On board a NASA space shuttle there is no such thing as a participant, only a commander, a pilot and mission specialists and loading specialists. The lowest rank is the loading specialist. Sheikh might become a loading specialist should he joined STS mission. By NASA standards, all three of them (Peggy, Yuri and Sheikh) are astronauts. Even if a person completes the training to become an astronaut. Doesn't matter whether he or she has been to space or not. On the other hand, by Russian standards, only Peggy and Yuri are cosmonauts because they both have been into space and came back safely. Once Sheikh is back to earth, only then he will certified as a cosmonaut. (If he was trained by NASA, he will be called an astronaut upon the completion of his training. He doesn't need to go for the launch to enjoy this status). Russian standards are much higher.
Furthermore, we Malaysians do not have an "astronaut corps" or joined any astronaut corps. If Sheikh joined the Russian astronaut (cosmonaut) corps specific to that particular mission his status or rank would have been a science officer. At the moment his status is the same as Dennis Tito and Mike Shuttleworth, that is spaceflight participant.

Only USD90 million. But apparently Sheikh already paid the rakyat RM2000 because he was provided with meal during his training.

I believe that our can-or-naut will come back, pass his exams without having to sit for it, get a Datuk"s title at the very least; and assist the same company that is building the boats at a staggering RM6billion, to build a minangkabau(Malaysian la) space ship. Doesn't matter if it is aerodynamic or not; as long as it is Malaysian. They have experience. The Scopion tanks have light guns. But The Malaysians replaced them with big, heavy guns. The tanks must stop moving in order for the guns to turn, thus rendering the tanks virtually useless.

Btw, the boats are riddled with flaws and are useless. None of them are operational. Didn't someone tell these guys they can't use instruction manuals from Lego sets to build these boats? Malaysia boleh!

God, how I love my country. I am so proud of Malaysia. Its simple folk are the strength of the country.

I still don't see the justification of spending that amount of ringgit, just to send him up? The amount used could have been channeled to improving other areas in the country instead of burning it up in rocket fuel.

The biggest question is..Do we really need space technology at this point of time?
