You sound like good friend of Alex Yong but for me he is a disgrace to the nation when he posted nude in magizane in UK.Alex is not a good single seater driver because he never had race go kart which is the basic of single seater. Alonso also drove for minardi and look where he is now.

Alex & Alonso - well put RB. It has been said that if Michael Shumacher drove for Minardi; they would have done pretty well; what with all their inhibitions.

i havbe nothing against Alex Yoong, i don't know him personally.

And yes, the present government; oh the present government - with all their super gigantic projects; where are they going to get all the money to pay for these whims and fancies?

Well i know Alex since he was 11yrs old and also has disqualified him few time because of cheating. Saloon car yes good driver but single seater completely different ball game.

A pro space program lady or friend asked me and my friends during lunch the other day that aren't you proud that we have a malaysian in space? So I ask her back, would you be proud if your hubby spent your hard earned money to go Antartic and come back saying that he achieved another milestone of your family legacy there by eating ketupat, rendang and lemang there. He also did some experiments that should benefit the mankind.

I told her, you should be proud right. Throwing away a few hundred thousands RM for the cause is not a problem at all coz there is no success without a personal sacrifice. I think she got angry with my comment.

My 2 cents. The space program is a waste of rakyat's money. I pay taxes each month and every year LHDN tells me that I need to pay more. It is not enough and I do peform my obligation as a Malaysian. But the see how and why the rakyat's money is being spent, sickens me.

For such an amount, there are so many opportunity cost. We could have done more things that has a significant and tangible impact to improve the lives of Malaysians especially the less deprived. Instead, we spent such an amount for a milestone, an experience and a distorted feeling injected to the malaysian minds. We paid for a very very very expensive circus show.

planta,

not one sen of the rakyat's money was spent for the space trip. it was a freebie from the russian govt.

redbaron,

alonso has the backing and sponsorhip of his very wealthy supermarket/conglomerate family to get him the PR he needed to get where he is. at the time Alex was growing up, there was no real karting league in M'sia so how was he supposed to get involved. it is not easy being the pioneer, and it is unfair of you to chastise him for lacking funds and experience. maybe you should instead be congratulating him for getting as far as he did with only his own sweat.

Alex may be a lot of things but he is no disgrace to the nation. your attitude on the other hand is a disgrace to you.

So posing nude is not a disgrace to the nation thats news. For your info sport miniestry funded Alex drivethe amount was almost RM50million. Go cart has been around very long in malaysia but just was not good enough bro.I have seen him when he was 17yrs old 11yrs old kid was faster then him, but he had a father that market him well. The facts is event petronas was not intrested in him.

Alex was sponsored for US5 million by the Ministry of Youth & Sports, the rest was raised via sponsorship. how much has been wasted on our idiot footballers? how much wasted sending Mat Rempits to the North Pole? how much wasted on our atheletes? Alex was value for money in that respect. how else you think we got the F1 to come to Sepang? it was all done in order to promote motorsports but then we have people like you that can only complain.

as for posing nude, define nude. he is not muslim so there is no issue about baring his body. get over it and don't be such a prude he did not have his 'batang' out, so what is your problem,... jealous? your narrow mindedness is more embarrassing to me as a Malaysian than his bare skin.

an 11yr old is lighter than a 17yr old and will go faster is using same powered kart. karts have been around a long time but there was no kart racing. there is a difference u know.

of course his father marketed him well. he also sold his house, his sister stopped university to help fund his career and all of this before he even made his way to F1. the Yoong family single-handedly brought motor racing to the attention of the Malaysian Govt, if it wasn't for them there would only be Mat Rempits and you.

shame on you for being so negative. lighten up!

LOL!

Dear Mr Zipperhead i have not said anything towards you or being rude towards you. Whats your problem. I would like to meet you since you are in Bangsar name the place and time will be there.

Zipperhead, are you Alex in the flesh? (ooops sorry, for the pun). I really have nothing against Alex. How much sadder can the story get? You seem to know so much about him.

Obviously, you missed the F1 races that Alex raced in. He was struggling to qualify. And when he did, he gets comments from Steve Slater like, "Has someone forgotten to tell Alex this is not a country drive?", for example. Driving at breakneck slow speeds in a F1 race just to say you've completed the whole race is not racing. So, next year if Malaysia comes out 5th again in the A1 circuit; will it be considered a hattrick?

Just because I have not driven in an F1 race does not disqualify me from stating my views that Alex should never have been in F1. Otherwise if I said that Owens is a good footballer; does it mean I am better than he is?

Ok, Alex sneaked into F1 through the back door, bribed his way in, drove an F1 car, etc. For that, credit is due to him. Former F1 driver......did I mention I was a former King marble player?

isn't it only fair that a man stands up for his friend when someone insults him by calling him a national disgrace when they themselves have done nothing for the sport or the country?

arguing over whether Alex is an F1 driver or not is like arguing whether a man is a man just because he has balls.

rb,

i did not say rude, i said prude (n. One who is excessively concerned with being or appearing to be proper, modest, or righteous. )

Would like to meet up with you and explain face to face because to long to post in the forum. You may only know the part that you are suppose to know.To day got TT come la at aman suria than we can exchange note.

can't make it. have a function at the mandarin oriental, wife forcing me to go see ronan keating:20:

i have no issue with you, but a man must stand up for his friends, right?

logically and realistically, there's no such thing as a free lunch and which ever way one wants to see it...we paid for his bleedin ticket.... if not in direct cash, in kind which amounts to the same thing... blatant and obvious. i wish people would not try to 'close one eye' to these realities... saves us sounding like idiots when we try to explain the obvious.

Yes when he is wright not when he is wrong. There is always 2 side of the story whether you choose to listen both or one that is up to you. From your posting there is a lot of thing are not wright. But some time when it is your friend we can get carried away. Anyway you have fun at the concert. Not mistaken this concert is done by Ariana than again i may be wrong.

Whatever it is, I think Alex has done the country proud last season in the A1 when he won one of the races.

Perhaps he didnt deserved to be in F1, yeah he paid for the Minardi drive, but there are others who have done the same. But the thing is this, he was in position to drive a F1 car. Now, say if you have millions of dollars, can you buy a Spyker drive? No you cant, because you possibly will be making a mockery of the whole F1 season. But in this angkasawan program, any healthy man/woman with some tertiary education is qualified, different ball game.

Some may say, he was struggling to qualify for race proper, but if the 107% qualifying rule is still enforced today I would say many of the backfield team drivers would be facing similar problems as to what Alex faced.

Cheers.

blackrobe,

Q. - to buy US fighters with no control over the software or to buy Russian fighters which are cheaper, easier to maintain, also with a free spaceflight thrown in? i think the answer is obvious.

if you so panas about the govt wasting money, what about the millions wasted on the M'sian football team, Shah Alam Stadium, Bukit Jalil stadium(s), the extravagant Boeing Business Jet, the list is endless.

what i am saying is that the space trip was an incentive thrown in by the Russian Govt, as a dealmaker. the sales price of the fighter planes is not in the equation, and was a totally separate issue, so NO, we the rakyat did NOT pay for his ticket.

the result of that spaceflight is a generation of young Malaysians who now aspire to better things like aeronautical engineering, astrophysics and molecular biology instead of being content to take over the family 'lemang' stall. i think it was worth it, and we got some great fighter planes too considering that the price was 20% cheaper than the proposed US deal.

take the twin towers as an example. so many people complained about them but they have given Malaysia 'visiblity'. before if you mentioned Malaysia abroad people would ask 'where?',....... above Singapore, below Thailand,.... 'oh!' now we don't have to explain and the towers have 90% occupancy and more than 2 million visitors a year and is a source of national pride.

rb,

the Malaysian football and hockey teams are a disgrace because they have never achieved ANYTHING. Alex has won races wearing the Malaysian flag and has brought pride and exposure to the nation like Nicol David and (some of) the Malaysian badminton team. to call him a 'national disgrace' because you disapprove of his modelling is unfair and unwarranted. Malaysia is not Taliban territory or a theocratic state and you shouldn't simply insult people,...

no asian driver has made an impact on F1 including the Japanese who have an exceptional level of junior training programs and unlimited financing. even Narain Kharthikeyan from India with the backing of the TATA conglomerate can only manage a test driver place in F1 and mediocre placings in A1, but both are considered national heroes.

to call someone a 'national disgrace' in a public forum is a bit strong and you should expect someone to disagree with your opinion.

Zipperhead, whats with you? You are talking as if you were at the table when the dealing and wheeling were made for the Russian planes. No doubt the Russian planes are cheaper. And they are great planes. Could the price have not come down further in the dealmaking for these planes if we did not accept the can-or-naut programme? Was the deal made first, completed; and then, the Russians offered the can-or-naut a ride?

Narain, by the way, is still in F1; with the possibility of driving for the new Indian team next season.

As for the government wasting money; does it mean that since they wasted humongus sums of money before; its ok to blow hundereds of millions of ringgit more on this field trip(more to come in the future)? By the way its not Boeing, its Airbus.

Once again, I have nothing against Alex, or Ariana, etc.. I am sure he must be a nice guy and they are a nice family.
