IMHO fuel subsidy must be abolished... last it was estimated to reach more than RM20 billion for 2012. And everyone is entitled to it and when i say everyone it includes
illegals , foreigners and anyone who has access to a petrol pump (why should these group be entitled to subsidy????)
therefore it is a waste of tax payers money and gov revenue to fund such a subsidy.
and the income from car tax?? the last was RM 7 billion. simple maths will show that if u abolish the car tax and remove the petrol subsidy.. the gov will still have some loose change of a few BILLION ( 20-7=13 to be exact)
which can be used to either
a) improve public transport or
b) channel it to the group who really needs fuel subsidy....or
c) do both
so i believe there are better alternatives than the present arrangement but the big question is WHY is it not done....
