mr burn... where got petrol didn't move our car, all petrol can move our car but the burning level among them are different! if more octane will cause easy to burn then no need to press pedal much... :nyehehe:
Paksu,

More octane does not mean more power. Octane is also not that easy to burn (relatively speaking) since it requires more activation energy. The power we experience with higher octane fuel is through controlled combustion (releases more energy per unit fuel). The absolute compression of the engine can be increased. More octane allows the compression of the engine to be increased without causing pre-ignition of the fuel. Complete combustion (not knocking) = more power. Thats why dragsters (high comp) etc use them without worrying about detonation in the cylinders under load.

More octane = allows higher compression design (absolute, not ratio) = more power = more $$$ ;)

I think in our low compression engines (relatively speaking, again) all that is needed is clean unadulterated fuel.

Cheers.

I just finished reading the BMW owner manual (took me about few weeks, 5-6 pages before going to sleep) :lazy:

Some quotes from the manual :getyourfactsright:

-"The minimum octane rating is 91"
-"Do not allow the engine to warm up by leaving it stationary. Instead begin to drive immediately at a moderate engine speed."

Just my observations:

Caltex = Good mileage,so so power

Petronas = Good mileage,erratic power(sometimes good,sometiems bad)

Esso/Mobil = so so mileage,so so power

Shell Super= so so mileage,so so power

Project = so so mileage, sucky power

Shell V Power = so so mileage, good power

So far I am sticking to Petronas and V Power.

P.S. Guys, just checking with ya. Is V Power now RM2.15 per litre?? I pumpued it over the weekends in Mlk and the price is as above.Shouldnt it be RM2.08 with a 30 sen increase? Used to be RM1.78. Does that mean the V Power increase more than 30 sen or is it I kena tipu? Thanks
wow... so detail wan...
mana ada kedai petrol station, gua jolok masuk... asalkan kereta gua dapat jalan dah cukup.

325xi,

Minimum RON 91 sounds about right but Didn't know about warming up. Always do it, wondering if it's detrimental to the car in any way?. Which manual is this. Sounds like there's good of info in there. Where can I get one?? Thanx for the info....

Cheers..

godflesh,

It is in the BMW owner manual, I can scan it if you want it , not the whole book though!

Even the technical advisor from the dealerships advised me the same during the briefing before I pick up my car.

1 person in car 90% of the time

weight about 66kg

hehehe
Same here. 1 person occupancy 90% of the time. But I weigh more than 66 kilos! :p

Dunno how much a full tank costs these days as I filled up just before the increase and not long thereafter my car has been sitting in the workshop for an aircon job.

My car does about 27 mpg (for the past many months, the on-board computer in my car says that my car's fuel consumption is 10.4 litre/100km). I travel about 60km a day in mixed urban (KL) and highway conditions.
