I was never interested in top speed but love a car with a good torque. What is the cheapest way to improve torque for a BMW?:stupid:

since we are at the torque thread, i tumpang abit. how come some cars u can feel the push, but yet reached 0-100kmh slower than cars without the initial push? or do you think car manufacturers are tuning their cars to give the initial push to fool drivers that the car is powerful?

i am comparing the golf gti (more push@6.9secs) and the megane rs250 (less push@6.1secs).

I think, and I might be wrong here, SB = Sprint Booster and VB = Velocity Booster.

And from my understanding, these devices don't increase torque, they just make you think the car has more torque because the throttle is more sensitive.

To increase torque you either increase the displacement of the engine or slap on a turbocharger/supercharger. Adding small little things like a better exhaust, open pod filters, better spark plugs, better coils etc is not going to net you much increase in torque but maybe a little bit more HP.

Yup agreed. Thats why Japs car got turbo to compensate lower engine capacity. For NA engine BMW higher cc will produce more torque. Remap may increase also but heard it will go back to normal if change battery (not sure). Is there any piggyback that can be use ie unichip for BMW?

Abbas - another easy and cheap option, is to play with the differential (or gear ratio)..You can feel the pick up but will sacrifice a bit during high speed.
That's what F1 cars are set depending on the circuit..(well of course there are more things F1 cars need to do, downforce.bla bla,bla..). Just an example..
But the most significant is of course to turbo-charged it !!

hah, somebody rang for me? just to share a bit, dunno abt other models but i got better torque fro changing my e30's ori 3.45 diff to a 3.91. However, at higher speeds, noise in the cab became loud. I once had a 4.10 rear diff installed & the gave a wonderful rush compared to the old 3.45 but it was too loud in the interior at speeds above 80kmph.
Of course I could hv put in noise deadening measures but why create another problem, in the first place?
I guess upgrading rear axels can improve torque but it also comes with sacrifice...that my 2cents!

Unichip is the cheapest route for a piggyback. Standalone management systems would cost upwards of 5k usually. I think Unichip is somewhere around RM2k+ right now inclusive of dyno runs and tuning.

Changing the gear ratio does not increase torque at the engine and is pretty much a temporary solution. The ultimate goal would be to increase torque at the engine so that your HP increases as well therefore not sacrificing top end speed.
