Hey guys, in your experience, what's the best set of tires you could recommend for 225/45/17 at RM400 or less? Not more than that amount.

Well, pay peanuts and you get monkeys, try Silverstone, less than RM300. Above 400 and less than 500 you can get 1) Hankook Ventus 2) Michelin Preceda and 3)Kumho Ecsta which are all pretty good value for the $$$.

I got my Pirelli Dragons for RM431 each for that size and I'm very pleased with it. However, I'm not sure if you can get it for that price now. If you can get it below RM500 each, I still recommend it highly. Otherwise, the Micheline MVX looks good too but it's not a performance tyre.

well...

1)can get the dragons for less than RM500 anymore and
2) the MXV series do not come in 225/45/17 series. Its more like the original specs such as 225/16/55 (E39).

Anyway this kiamsiap bimmerman is looking below 400!

Ayoyo! No nice tires in the RM350-400 range ah? Hmmm..... How bouts the Yokohama C-Drive or Aspec DB?

Ayo! Not kiamsiap lah bro. No money woh. Really really broke but want to drive UDM still. What to do? Already kena racun. But I reckon I can squeeze out RM1600 from my flexible friend.

Currently I bought a pair of AC Schnikums replicas from a friend cheap cheap because it gives his car serious tremors and he's scared of it alrerady. The rims came with 2 firenzas (yes, the exploding tires!) and one Falken GR-B one one side and a Potenza S-03 (balding) on the other side. The Potenza's have a real singing talent and hows at 80KPH and above!

It did not tremor or shimmer on my car but after lowering my car with Bilstein (Eibach made) springs and my still good Boge shocks, my car has started to shimmy at 90-100KPH as well. So I reckon if I buy new tires, the shimmy will go away. Woe is me.....

Below 400 how to get Japanese tires or even Korean ones...my dear friend. :p Cheapest is Silverstone lor...

Seriously I wont hesitate to recommend the Hankook Ventus K105 to you. I am using it on my rear, size 235/45/17, got it for 430 a piece and been on it for 3 months now. Tire wear looks not too bad and its quite silent as well. Comes with silica as well. Value for $$$!!

Front, I am using Michelin Preceda, size 225/45/17, about 470 a piece with alignment and balancing. I would say the Hankook is about as good as the Michelin, if not better. But Preceda 235/45/17 cost close to RM700/piece.

All I can say is, use something good and not mess around with cheap2 tires as it may cost you your dear life! :D :D

I agree with Bundy ...

Ur tires are the only contact u hv with the road ... even at 200kmh ..

Do not compromise on ur safety ... :eek:k:

I found this yesterday ..

Good Year F1 GSD 3 Germany
235/45/17 - $580
225/45/17 - $530

DUNLOP Direnza
235/45/17 - $480

DUNLOP SP9000
235/45/17 - $430

Last month

Sumitomo HRxxx
225/45/17 - $380

I have had the GSD3 made in Deustche land before, db level starts going up as soon as tire wear reaches 50%, similarly for the Yoko ES100.

I can live with the extra db ...

But I was told that these tires will follow the road contour ... ie pulling the steering when the road is uneven ... I hate that !

Basically after a while these tires will have an uneven surface and hence the extra db   It may also cause the steering to veer to one side as per what you mentioned. BUt the GSD3 is an awesome wet tyre!

Wet is not my selection criteria per se .. (diff kind of wet .. aaaaa ... that one ok ) ..

Veering .. ? Than I guess this tire is out from my list ..

Friend. I not sure you want to try Falken or not, I get Falken ST115 225/45/17 @ RM 420/pcs. So far so good. Silicon base tyre.

wear rate for the ST115 may be a bit on the high side but it's grippy (soft compound, hence the higher wear rate)

hmm..coiuld it be misalignment thats causing the bump-steering? when i changed from 15/205 to 16/225...bump-steering became very obvious...sometimes bordering on dangerous!!!. .alignment done, most of it went away..:) hope this helps..:)

Don't know if one can consider it bump steering but my ride does veer left and right according to the road surface. At first I thought my rims were the wrong offset as this is often a symptom of wrong offset but after changing rims the problem remained. The alignment guy says my front shock top mount is no good so car is veering. :dunno:

ST115 is a good tire, have used it before but the wear rate is obnoxious!! It was all worn within 6 months and the Michelin I was using lasted me more than a year! So, in terms of value for $$$, I would still rate the Michelin higher.

AS for vehicle veering to the sides (left or right depending on the road camber), the bigger your rims the more pronounced the effect will be.
