I had a nice chance to put the 120i thru its paces during the BMW event at Souled Out 2day and I love it! It had very appealing tight bucket seats, thick steering and wrap-around dash. Too much revealing plastics tho. The car handled very well with tight and precise steering as well as grip levels, felt like a roadster. Engine is only OK, I think the chassis can handle more power. It will be great to have an M1, hehe!
Echo your report. I signed up for a drive after the race on JPB's recommendation.

4 of us in the car. Initial impression of the engine is that it sounds quite grunty and promising . Floored it on my way out of the souled out road with no drama (not enough torque) missed the 1st left recommended by the sales guy and had to take the longer route down to Plaza Mt Kiara.

Having failed to induce any drama earlier, I floored it (in manual all the way) and deliberately coged the steering to induce oversteer upon turning in. Managed to get some screeches but again no drama as I forgot to turn the DTC off. The sales guy wasn't pleased and was a tad unfriendly (come on, can afford to buy la. smile la).

Full throttle all the way until the plaza mt kiara lights. Lights turned green and slammed the pedal down preparing for the tunnel sweeper, outside line with 3000 rpm left to power through. Not bad and more screeches. A tidy car to chuck around.

wanted to take the u-turn on full throttle but had to lift a bit due to traffic. Then he instructed me to take the left into the shops instead of turning back towards the mt kiara track. *sigh*.

The car isn't bad but for the RM229k price tag. Good steering feel too.. Would be a better car with the 2.5l for a sprited drive. The 3.0l would really make in into a baby M.

Despite the lack of conversation from the salesman, manage to learn that a 100 units are already sold. If power is not on your agenda, the 120i could be quite fun. The next time, I will remember to turn off the DTC (dont recall it flicker).

Thanks for the drive BMW Malaysia. You are going to lose one less customer here B)

Funnily, I was exiting the car park with the 1er as WJ was coming in with his GTA. We had brief exchanges of "Come lah, scared ah?!!...". Poor Kahar was next to me thinking it's gonna be one of those rides. "..apa ni, test drive oso wanna race ah?!". Anyways that didn't happened as I didn't see any red GTA tiong-ing me. Got back to Souled Out only to find out WJ's wife took the GTA so no action lorr...

I test drove the 120i at the BMW Experience 2005 Glenmarie. WJ may not think there is enough grunt but I like the way the engine perform, and the car really handles.

Powerwise of course there is no contest with the Golf GTi, but there is nothing like a high revving engine to get your senses worked up. The brakes are good too.

Put the 120i in sports mode and the car redline so easily. I just wish there is a 6 speed manual available and they shave 200kg off the weight, then it will be superb.

I wud rather have the VW Golf R32.... see Top Gear Video Clip in which a 130i was pitted against the R32. Guess who won....
