"BMW is going to manufacture a hot M-Power version of it’s new 1-Series to take on its rivals the Golf R32, Alfa 147 GTA, & hot new Ford Focus RS. BMW is also planning to use a 3.0 Litre straight six-cylinder engine that will rev to at least 8500 Rpm, with drive through a seven-speed SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) driving the rear wheels. Expect 310 Bhp from the 3.0 litre, with kerb weight of under 1500 kg. 0-60 Mph is estimated to be 5.8 secs, with top speed limited to 155 mph. With lightweight engine, with dual-Vanos variable timing system and individual throttle butterflies for each cylinder."

I'll take this over a 350Z. At least it has rear seats.

Hi Kwang,

I can't imagine the kind of torque the 1 is gonna have once an M Power is transplanted! It definitely feels like a very solid chassis. Was chatting with YS Khong the other day when he test drove it for his review

1 Series Review

My only gripe is with the interiors. A little too plasticky for my taste. But it is a hatch I guess, so the focus is largely on it's handling characteristics rather than creature comfort. Exterior styling is probably a love or hate thing i reckon ;)

i saw once in subang a lady driving it...
the one series looks like new gen of Z roaster ... is very nice...

I sat on the ONE today @ my visit to AB Pg.

I found the plastics a bit tacky, the Rear space non existent but the front seats were very sporty which a variety of adjustements.....it would sell well in Msia as a 2 dr @ RM150k but not @ its preset form and price!

Welcome macdude! You know who to call when "1" shows at up at your place...!
That's only gonna work if you clock-off work before midnight m8! :D

Here's another UDM that just arrived. These 330Ci's are pretty bling!

Yeah...someone also was working until 3 am on a Sat night!

Damn, that ride looks so fine - I thought by Ci you meant coupe, but this is a bonus. I'd really love to have those wheels on mine...

Singapore is really amazing, I get the impression that there are just as many E46 cabrios and coupes as sedans. I think I only saw 2 E36s, and 316is at that....

Can't agree more. Singapore definitely has some pretty mean cars. The standard M'sian UDM's are kinda rare over there!

The 1 series coupe (2 or 3 door) is called the 2 series.

It looks like a good opportunity to capture the magic of the '02 series of the 70s. Shame that the proportions look wrong. I've seen a couple of 1 series on the road. Don't quite like the hatchback... somehow does not look as elegant as the traditional hatchbacks. I think it is constrained by the front engine, rear drive configuration. Shame.

I think I'll wait till the 3 or 3.2 litre 3-door version comes out before making a firm judgement.
The M2?

Do you think this car would capture the spirit of the original E30 M3 / 2002tii?

BMW Malaysia launches three new models

BMW Malaysia Sdn Bhd has introduced its first new offerings for the year - the new BMW 116i, 118i, 630i - to strengthen its presence in the market.

In a statement on March 4, it said the launch of the 116i and 118i to the 1 Series line-up alongside the sporty 120i would bring the total number of variants in the 1 Series to three.

Its managing director Wolfgang Schlimme said the launch of the two variants were keeping to the schedule of its promise at the launch of the BMW 120i earlier in terms of choice and variants.

“With the availability of the 116i and 118i, we expect to be able to grow with more volume in this segment as these two variants appeal to wider base of customers,” he said.

The two models are powered by Double VANOS VALVETRONIC variable camshaft in-line four cylinder units displacing 1,596cc and 1,995cc respectively that develop 115bhp and 129bhp and a maximum torque of 150Nm and 180Nm.

The 116i comes with a five speed manual transmission while the 118i is available with a six speed automatic transmission.

The two models retains most of the same high technology specifications of its brethen and is equipped with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Automatic Stability Control (ASC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), and on-board computer for live information to the driver, such as tyre pressure, mileage and speed.

Other standard equipment included are fog lights, automatic air-conditioning, Radio BMW Professional featuring MP3 playback capability, CD changer and cup holders.

The 118i model also comes with a multi functioning steering wheel in sports leather, interior and exterior mirrors with anti-dazzle function, Park Distance Control (PDC) and Cruise Control.

Both variants are available in five colours including Black, Sparkling Graphite, Titanium Silver, Quartz Blue and Sydney Blue.

The 116i and 118i models are available from all BMW dealers nationwide with a recommended retail price of RM176,000 and RM199,000 respectively (on the road, without insurance).

In addition to the two new 1 Series Model, the company also launched a third variant of its 6 Series - the new 630i - making the new 6 Series available for the first time ever in Malaysia with a six-cylinder engine.

“The new BMW 630i once again introduces cutting edge technology, with the very first appearance of our next generation six cylinder engine in this model,” Schlimme said.

The new straight-six petrol engine features the world’s first ever composite magnesium/aluminium crankcase. It provides weight reduction of 10kg over its predecessor and an increase in output of 12%, thus achieving the best power-to-weight ratio in its class.

The new six cylinders develops maximum output of 258bhp at 6,600rpm with a maximum torque of 300Nm at just 2,500rpm. It translates into a top speed of 250 km/h at just 6.7 seconds.

The car is available nationwide with a recommended retail price of RM668,800 (on the road, without insurance).

Schlimme said the launch of the three new models represented just the beginning of a slew of new model launches slated for 2005.

“This year, we will continue our strategy of introducing new models as soon as right-hand drive versions are launched, keeping our current momentum and continuing to delight our customers,” he said.

“In the coming months, we will be launching the new BMW 3 Series, an updated BMW 7 Series line up, the MINI Convertible and an updated MINI line up.”

I had a nice chance to put the 120i thru its paces during the BMW event at Souled Out 2day and I love it! It had very appealing tight bucket seats, thick steering and wrap-around dash. Too much revealing plastics tho. The car handled very well with tight and precise steering as well as grip levels, felt like a roadster. Engine is only OK, I think the chassis can handle more power. It will be great to have an M1, hehe!

Got tionged by a 1-er on the Seremban H/way this afternoon. Let him pass but he was blocked by heavy traffic shortly ahead.

When I caught up, for a moment I couldn't find him 'coz there was a bunch of Gen-2's in front. That's exactly what the 1-series rear looks like ...... :p
I definately agree with u...hehehe..!
