Looks like maybe I should try Syntium.....but maybe the Syntium 1000 instead cause old engine mah. :D

Yeah Bro... go try it... surely won't regret it... If 5000 too thin, then can go with 3000 or as you mentioned, the Syntium 1000...

Syntium, go syntium !

Hi there, i agree with Silver, better use Syntium !. Know wat? Just happens to meet a fren who is now doing trading and guess wat? He just sign up with a dealer trading Petronas lubricants and since we're old fren, i managed to get a very very special price for the Syntium oil, well, lets say the price you wont get out there. Gerenti ori ! Did a change of engine oil and wow ! Silver ! U re right !!!!

just to pickup old thread,

shell helix ultra 5w-40 is selling for RM 100 at tesco (taken from an advert) until 21st nov

no mention of which tesco in the advertisement. it should apply to all tesco

I echo bro LOZO's words... Tesco is offering the Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 for RM99.90 only :D
Time to grab a few of those engine oils... but then I realise that the bottle have no seal on it! Not a problem for me though.. coz this was pointed out by M1 Motor Works when I sent my E60 for regular servicing some time back... he showed me their Shell Helix with seal when you open the bottle cap!!! Take note of this...

saw it at tesco sg petani yesterday, was still rm99.90..made in EU..

this is still a very good deal... i just bought it at RM170. Want to rush to Tesco Extra this everning lah

this is also my experience on mobil1 15w50 synthetic oil. i have much improved fuel consumption something like 11+km liter after 10,000km. when i switched to using 10w40 oil, i have better consumption right from the beginning. this suggests the engine should use w40 oil for better efficiency.

if you take care of your engines, 10w40 is about the right viscosity on BMW engines. another cheap and good oil to use is RRR 10W40 fully synthetic. very good and cheap from UK. only $30 for 5 liters at Carrefour.

for those thinking w60 oil is better for protection, you will have to undo your traditional thinking. modern engines use better oil. new ones even use w30 or w20 oils. so w40 is about the right one, even if you redline frequently.

not every engine is modern leh!

Anyone can advice where to find the golden fluid of Shell Helix??? I looked all over Tesco Damansara, Puchong, etcs

I only get my engine oil from petrol station or source directly from Petronas for fear non genuine!

hv changed my E46 engine oil from petronas semi synt 15w-50 to shell helix ultra 5w-40.
so far wht i notice..
1. no engine oil leak switching to thinner oil (miliage 6+,000Km plus)
2. engine feel slightly lighter
3. engine noise stay pretty the same as 50w ( i anticipate the engine will be noisier but none)
4. less vibration feel on the steering whn idle (maybe engine running smoother)
5. petrol comsumption more less the same

update, Mobil 1 5W-50 Fully Synthetic Rally Formula is being sold now at Carrefour for RM168 for 4L. Normal price around RM205

Lately, Carrefour's Mobil 1 supply a bit erratic and expensive. Look out for promo at TESCO, if u r lucky can get Mobil 1 5W-50 for under RM150 ie RM148 or so.
