Nice , but mine is mineral grey , not sure whether it look nice or not

Seen that combo before its nice but the contrast is not as apparent as with Alpine White la ...

didn't want to start a new thread, so tumpang your topic to post what i did with my F30 320d alpine white sport line. after replacing the stock mundane looking wheels last year to the m sport staggered wheels (400M), the colour combination looked a bit off in my opinion. since i've done up some other parts of the car with plastidip matte black, was thinking why not i try doing up the wheels. search around the internet and saw some of the video tutorials by DYC and i finally used the "lazy man's" way of spraying.. while the wheels are still on the cars!

as per the tutorial, i used large plastic bags to wrap up the brake callipers and rotors. waited about 10 minutes between coats. that's about 10 minutes if you're spraying a single coat on 4 wheels. by the time you're done with the 4th wheel, you can start the 2nd coat on the first wheel and repeat it 4 times. it took me under 3 hours to do it.

of course with this lazyman's way of doing plastidipping, you'll get certain area not fully dipped and you won't be getting an even spray at the inner wheel. no fret, because brake dusts will just blend the colour.

not sure about the end result, i've also bought a can of plastidip glossifier just in case i don't dig the matte look. ACE hardware MV has tonnes of matte black and they're also bringing in neon colours. hope that they'll bring in more like the metalizers and the true metallics colours! the local distributor (ampang boulevard, along MRR2 near to Zoo) is selling about RM70 a can when it's only about USD6 - 10 a can in the US / Canada.

Ready to dip! with a can gun 1, so that your hand and fingers won't get tired and numb while spraying.

i leave a tape on a small part of the wheel cap and M logo so that i can peel those off later

as you can see, i didn't even bother taping up the edges of the rims because you can easily peel those excess off the tyre. while drying they already begin to flake and peel by itself.

i didn't wait long enough for the wheels to dry completely especially at the centre wheel cap. water retention at the seam of the wheel cap caused the plastidip to coat over the water surface instead of the wheel.

you can easily peel off the plastidip off a completely dry wheel cap. there's a nice separation between the wheel and the wheel cap where you can just simply peel the plastidip off.

my best wheel + wheel cap and M emblem. still some slight overspray on some parts of the area.

First time plastidipping of wheels completed!

i will track how well the plastidipped wheels will hold and last against car washes, tyre alignment / balancing and other wear and tear and will update this thread periodically.

thanks for reading!

i've had other parts dipped before many months back and they're still holding up quite well until today.

320d emblem. Black emblem or any other colour emblem makers gonna go out of business soon! i plastidipped the emblem about 4 months back, and after numerous car washes, they're still as good as day one.

plastidipped front black kidney grilles. looking at how expensive are the black grilles, i decided to plastidip them more than 6 months ago. my first ever plastidipping experience, and not up to my expectation, because i held the spray can too far from the grilles, causing the paint to form a coarse surface. it supposed to have a smooth surface, like how it should look like on the dipped wheels. nevertheless, the dip is still holding up after so many months.

rear view of my car with the black emblem and black wheels combo. for those with the m sport bodykit and additional m performance black lips / diffusers, it'll look even better!

look what i've got from the postman today.. my order of DYC special colour, true metallic anthracite grey is finally here!

the anthracite grey "produces a realistic Anthracite Grey Metallic finish in one step.. no base coats or metal flake needed. This new kind of Plasti Dip generates a beautiful metallic Anthracite that takes Plasti Dip finishes to the next level. Peels the same as regular Plasti Dip. A top coat of Glossifier is suggested for the most realistic metallic finish possible" as taken from www.dipyourcar.com.

i finally able to get a dude from canada who's wiling to ship this over to me via ground shipping and it took about 3 months to reach! since aerosol products are deem dangerous and can't be shipped via air.

we can still recreate the anthracite grey look with a few base coat of matte black, followed by a few coats of silver metalizers.

i'll use it for some of my interior dipping and may change the colour of the wheels after i track the progress of wear and tear of the matte black dip.

to be frank, there are quite some spots that i didn't cover 100% because i didn't remove the wheels when i painted it. furthermore, i did all four wheels with 4 coats in under 3 hours. and matte black wasn't my first choice! i'm getting criticized by my friends and wife now. lol

nevertheless, quite happy with it because my main purpose of doing this is to try out plastidipping wheels and see how well they can hold up going for carwashes, wear & tear, etc.

With Plastidip you can always try and try again! LOL

that's the beauty of it! but it's not cheap at RM50 a can.. but at least it's reversible and multipurpose.. all my neighbours were so curious about plastidip when i was dipping my wheels.. all came and ask about the product. and now they have their own ideas and usage of plastidip.. lol

Hi humms, nice job you've done.
May I know how many can needed to spray all 4 rims?
Since you says it's reversible, may I know how easy to remove the coating from the rim?
