champion;502935 said:I dont see any issue using 225/40/18, just make sure you have the correct rim width. The rim width should be between 7.5" to 9". Bear in mind the tyre size you opted is going to affect the speedo reading.Try to replace the tyre/rims with the radius not more than 3%.
Another point you might want to take into consideration that it will not good with e39, the section width of the tyres are too small and it will sit in deep into your wheel arch.
Out of curiousity - why that tyre size ?

Depend on your rims width. I was told for 225 tires minimum is on 8.0" wheel width.
xstatic;503477 said:e39 comes with stock rims of 225/55/16. The diameter of the wheel for this settings is 25.7 inches
225/40/18 - this will give a diameter of 25.1 inches. This will indicate an overread on the speedo by 2.6%. (not ideal). Rim width for this setting is between 7.5 - 9 JJ. Optimum would be 8jj
235/40/18 - diameter is 25.4 inches. Overread by 1.3% (close enough). Rim width between 8 - 9.5 JJ. Optimum 8.5jj
245/40/18 - diameter 25.7 inches. Overread by 0.1% (optimum, which is also the correct setting). Rim width between 8 - 9.5JJ.Optimum 8.5jj
And if you have staggered setup...the rear should be 275/35/18. overread 0.6%. Rim width 9 -11JJ. Opt 9.5.
although 265/35/18 is also acceptable. overread by 1.7%.
cheers...

Thanks for all the input and comment. I got the tyre together with the rim.
But during installation, the mechanic recommended that 225 40 18 'look' small and recommended me 235 40 18 for front and 245 45 18 for back. LOOK GREAT but... feel the drag at high speed (140-160km/hr)..... but now the LOOK GREAT is coming to an end since the 245 45 18 worn out only within 3 months of usage...appearantly is a 'Sport' version and very very soft. ... of course after long long journey to KL-Ipoh-Alor Setar-KL,KL- KB-Kuantan-KL and KL-JB-Melaka-KL.
Anyway, pocket is drying out and the thought of using back the 225 40 18 on front and transfer the 235 40 18 to back.
Am travelling againt next week to Ipoh-Penang-Alor Setar. Hope the 225 40 18 able to cop my journey... till next month..anybody have any 235 40 18 to sell?. cheers
