yes mine is the 320i model. I am planning to take out my car from AB today. it is pointless to argue with AB or BMW Malaysia as both as concluded I drove my car through a fairly deep level of water. BMW Malaysia sent me a letter to explain the cause but if you read the content you will laugh. They even warned me not to accuse them or criticize their car in public forum or they will take necessary actions to protect their brand.

I am just curious if BMW is so confident that their design is flawless then why are they afraid of me going to public forum to voice my opinion and frustration???? I have never seen or heard or encounter any company in any industry that will ask their customer to shut up if not action will be taken. it is amazing how they can be so arrogant.
If this is a "warning" in writing from BMWM, it's even better. There is nothing wrong with voicing your frustration here. You may try taking legal action since you have nothing to loose now that you may Hv to spend $$$ repairing outside and you have in writing a warning from BMWM or the dealership to keep silent and suffer from the entire ordeal.

I'd not remove my car from dealership until I seek legal advise if I'm in your position.

Any update from Edmund76? Has the issue been rectified? Quite concern after reading this. How abt others, is there anything which can be done to prevent this from happening to our F30?

last monday i saw one new 7-series breakdown at jalan kia peng after flash flood. Its sad that there is no action from BMW to rectify this problem but my advice to fellow bimmers please DO NOT force start your car if this kind of things happen to you. Its alwasy RM2000 Vs RM20000 damage whenever u decide to leave the car at is it or force start after breakdown.

Base on my own experience

Just get the extra insurance coverage for flash floods. period

Sundra, SC manager told me the damage can go up to as high as RM50,000 ! He keeps telling me, never drive through if the water level is half of your tyre height, maintain at 5km/h speed. This is the guideline from them. Also, you need to consider the wave when other car passed through along the side can push up the water level.

I agree that that we should be taking the extra cover. However, if we drive through the so called flood and causes damage to the car, wouldnt that be classified negligence and hence insurance wont cover it?

Bro sh_Callum,

Cost really about how bad and how far water penetrate inside the engine and cost of replacement parts i guess. But like other bros mentioned better get special perils and its worth to have it. But the thing is although u have special perils it will not stop you from worrying whenever you drive through flood thinking about possible breakdown and etc and worst possibility is bring down car engine for overhoul.

Feel like girlfriend stripped naked infront of doctor, its needed but you dont prefer right hahaha

Sundra, agree with u. Nowadays rains are downpour which will prone to flood everywhere. That means cars are vulnerable to get hydrolock.

a friend of mine spent RM100,000 after running through flood.

car value was RM150,000 but repairs costed RM100,000. the dealer will revise the bill based on parts requires replacement.

started with a RM50,000 quote. then more hours and more parts till RM150,000.

basically, the engine, the cat, the electric seats and other parts were dead.

It has got to be that really bad flood happened a few weeks ago. I have both friend's cars in 3 feet of water. Luckily both are old cars but the interior is in bad shape and they had to repair some parts for the engine.

Seems like your friend's car was almost completely submerge into the water ?

half his car?

it was a car park incident whereby the carpark was submerged.

he couldnt go home so he got a cab. the next day, he went back to the mall. its dead.

the car parked next to him, the Vios, was ok. coughed a bit but survived.

Oh boy.. this is really scaryyyyy :s:

But there are important lessons to be learnt here:

a. Avoid flood waters and deep puddles;
b. Never try to restart engine after stalling and tow to nearest workshop;
c. Invest in extra insurance for Floods and other perils, 0.5% of insured value.

Do other BMW series have this problem with flood waters too?

Cheers.

Hey guys any new stories to share? As a new owner now i'm thinking i shouldnt even drive the thing out unless its completely sunny :p

Thanks to John for bringing this thread up again. I read page by page with utmost feeling of fears and suspense! It was like reading a thriller novel.

There were moments of sadness, angers, frustration, relief, remorse, enlightenment. ....macam macam ada.

I hope no one else have to go through this scenario ever again.

Every year there will be stories about BMW's drowning in our floods. Just be sure not to restart your engine if it shuts off due to the flood and please....get your car insured against flood.
