Sometimes better not to know too much otherwise pocket selalu koyat. Case to point is my MAF. Car runs very smooth but plug in scanner and got MAF live data 15 & 20. No error codes whatsoever. Now gatal want to buy new MAF.

haha ha.....herbert herbert......why you koyat yr own pocket lar......but never mind lar....better fuel consumption....gud for you mate.....errr.....koyat by how much aarrr?

yesterday, managed to scan yazid E39/523i with the scanner. Managed to detect only the DME and EGS only.
No live data on the scanner.

Change cable to EDIASBAS and using INPA, can get live data.

Now puzzled why certain car have live data and some dont have.

Now need to get another E46/318i/N42 engine to test for live data using INPA.

Guys,

It is confirmed that my old MAF has degraded. Tested live data from new MAF and readings are:

Approx. 11.5 kgm/hr - aircon OFF (used to be 15 - 16 kgm/hr)
Approx. 16.0 kgm/hr - aircon ON (used to be 19 - 21 kgm/hr)

Fuel consumption has gone down to 9.5 L/100 km (used to be 12.5 to 13.5) city driving with medium to hard footing on accelarator.

OK at least we can confirm the absolute value when the MAF is new.

Thanks.. will try to clean my MAF first before taking the plunge..

Just came back from outstation drive. With new MAF, engine feel smoother, throttle very responsive and consumption 7.5 L/100 km (average speed 140 to 160 km/hr). Koyat by RM 600.00

Racunsss...I guess soon many of us will try to change the MAF now..

I guess most mechanics won't even know how to interpret live data from their scanner and advise their customers accordingly. Degradation of sensors (cam, crank, pre-cat 02 and etc) can be monitor via live data. Question here is we need to know what are the nominal values for all these sensors. At least now all of us know the nominal values for MAF sensor.

Jarance, this is what I have read from some Coding sites. May have something to do with compatibility. BTW, after some research, I have decided and already got the same K+Dcan interface like the one you have.

Here's the cable compatibility breakdown, cables listed from oldest to newest:

K-Line only cable:
All K-Line cars
All Double K-Line cars
No D-CAN cars

K+DCAN cable with PIN 8 connected:
All K-Line cars
All Double K-Line cars
D-CAN cars without Ethernet interfaces, i.e. cars produced from 9/06 or 3/07 (depending on model) up to but NOT
including 3/09

K+DCAN cable with PIN 8 disconnected:
All K-Line cars
All D-CAN cars
No Double K-Line cars (except with an adapter)

The reason is that cars from 3/09 onward have an Ethernet interface on Pin 8, and if the car detects a signal on that
interface, it drops the D-CAN connection that's being used for coding. A cable with Pin 8 already disconnected
(or desoldering it yourself) solves that problem but breaks Double K-Line because BMW used Pin 8 for Double K-Line
back in the day. Unfortunately that recycling of Pin 8 means there's no universal cable, so it's something to be
aware of. Some vendors sell an adapter that will allow you to code Double K-Line from a cable with Pin 8 disconnected
though because the adapter bridges Pins 7 and 8, so that's how you'd get truly universal coding if you need it.
However, I don't know of a way to block Pin 8 without desoldering.

jarance,
I m just starting to use this tool, how can i see the live data of gear oil temperature with this tools?
thanks

Hi sifus,
My ride, E46,318,2004, N46B20, just plug in the scanner and did some changes (change L/100km to km/L, changese rvice interval for kilometer and time, days from 25k to 10k and 716 to 182 respectively, reset the inspection interval,)
Problem: after the changes, my time display at electronic display cluster and radio become --:-- . try to press the right knob, twist and turn left and right still --:--.
anyone did experience this?
How to get clock back in running? thanks in advance.

Try twisting a little harder http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?40304-clock-help

try this. The clock will reset. This apply to your radio clock as well. when you set the clock at the instrument cluster,
the radio clock will also follow it. (Note: there is no setting for radio clock)

Jarance, most cars have the live data available, it's just whether the interface and software can read it or not. Since INPA is a factory debug tool, it would be able to read data from most models.

It is confirmed that live data is available using INPA on N42.

Just pouring my thoughts here, E46 is double K (KK) interface and to read from all modules, pin 7 and 8 of the OBD II (16 pin) needs to be connected to the EDIABAS interface.

Jarance/aangavatar,

I think GB temperature should be under EGS module , not DME.

I have got my DIS V57 running using the K+DCAN cable similar to the one Jarance has got. I have tried that on my E46, will try on the early model E60 soon. I will get hold of a later DCAN model to try. The cable comes with a utility program to select com port no ,K-Line or (DCAN + PTCAN).

Jarance/Anyone who would know,

This was an old issue I asked a while back without any conclusive answer. Basically I feel my front Xenon Auto adjusting lights is not high enough, and I've adjusted it manually using to screw on top of the headlight to be on its highest setting currently.

Using the BMW Scanner 1.4 this is the screen that would control the headlight height setting (I guess).

HVAC (Headlight Vertical Aim Control)

richardp-albums-various-picture9188-e39-lcm.png

Btw its not a screenshot of my car's setting, its from the net. I'm reffering to the HVAC positioning bit.

So what I'm asking is, what are the values that I can play with? If it was only numbers I guess its easy to play with, but this is 9A, 5C etc so I'm quite confused there. AidilJ suggested this is a hexadecimal value (did he say hexadecimal? Cant remember).

So anyone out there know the values I could play with? Or better not to touch it?

haywire, it hexadecimal. The value shown for U1 position and stepper motor seem to be "wrong". what is you actual value?

Xcrave don't mine to share your LIVE DATA from the scanner 1.4.0, if im not mistaken you did post that your car can read, but my car can't read it lar.. (Our car was same spec i believe) Thanks.

Live data is possible if you use the 20 pin connector at the engine bay... the 16 pin under the steering is useless...

Don,t mind to share with pic which and location of 20 pin connector at the engine bay u are talking about ?
