F30 328i Engine Noise

Anyways, my RCZ's engine is a pretty clattery bin at times (though I don't hear it from the inside, CBU mah). But a small sacrifice for all the torque of a well developed twin scroll turbo

The car is about 75% complete when arrive at Kulim, that's why they call it SKD not CKD. Same concept being practiced by NAZA for Peugeot. Can't wait to collect my F30 328 next week.

comparing the N20 to the VW 2.0TSI or the 1.4TSI...the VW engine sound so much better than the diesel sounding N20...even when revved the N20 sound is not desirable...

There is indeed some "diesel chatter" at times. However, all is forgiven once you plant your right foot down and hear the engine roar it's way through the 8 speed gear box with full locking within ratios. Personally, I think it's one of the best sounding 4 cylinder engines at full blast, short of a Honda Type R engine

can always install some aftermarket exhaust system. though i would like to keep the nice black chrome exhaust tips.

Had the chance to drive a 320i e90 fitted with a Supersprint backbox recently.I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the exhaust note.. nice and burbly with no drone in sight.Not 6cyl raspiness nice but a different bassier burbly rasp nice.Hope there's a similar solution to the F30's N20.

Yup, mine too making clunky noises but as long as I can't hear it from within it's still acceptable. As I do not own any BMW before this, I don't know what would happen in a year or two though. Keeping my fingers crossed hoping that the sound would still be insulated by then

i have had my f30 for about 2 weeks now, i think its a marvelous car. you cant hear much of the engine noise inside the cabin. i just drove mine to ipoh from kl in 50 min , i truly i enjoyed my drive .

The engine noise for the 328i is more noticeable when engine is cold. Once it's warmed up, it's not that audible.

After driving aroung in my 328i for sometime, I will attest that the N20 clatter its not noticeable within the cabin. On the outside, as soon as the engine is warmed up the clatter is also not noticeable. The WOT sound from 3,500rpm upwards is quite additive. That said, it will not match the sound of my previous M52B28.

Tested the 328i yesterday,since this thread is about engine clatter I shall only comment on that aspect.I don't know what some of you were talking about regarding the clatter but I didn't hear any,from inside or outside the car.Maybe the engine was already warmed up prior to my drive.In terms of pickup I'd say it was very good for a 2litre turbo German sedan.
I wouldn't drop my 335i for the 328i just yet tho... so it'll be a long wait for me.

anyone notice the sound of plastic rubbing on each from the front?

i only can hear it if i off the player and aircon... and of course the rattling sound from the engine la.

Nexavibe, I've got that irritating rattling noise as well on my F30 320d, it is considerably more prevalent on cold startup. It is not the typical diesel clatter but that friggin annoying rattle which appear to come from either the dash or the somewhere inside the labyrinth of the aircond. Brought the car back to Quill and the service technician confirmed the existence of the rattle, but couldn't identify where or what is making that noise. I'm at my wits end tearing my hair out trying to get someone who is able to help solve this frustrating seemingly small problem but irritating nonetheless. Sighhhhhh....talking about quality control from a premier brand!

According to an experienced SA, not possible bro once SKD is released.
'Special orders' are only limited to request for different spec on models that are not locally assembled.

went to AB in JB. The colour selection for the 328 is very limited currently. Most of the colours are not available. And only black leather available for interior.
Test drove it and it is a fantastic drive
May opt for the 528 instead. more choices available

My Mazda CX-7 DISI Turbo engine also clatter.
Most direct injection engines will have this.

Hey my F30 sound like a diesel engine too, I tot the bloody BMW guy give me a right car with a wrong engine too, hehe. Thank god I am not the only one ....
but is this correct sound? I mean; it sound like that right?
