Van,

Poison starts flowin' eh???

Neo,

No such thing, la! I'm sure he must already be wondering what to do with that extra pair of enclosures on his kicks - so just merely dropping some "ideas" in case he wants to do something about it! :p

Cheers,
VaN.

Heh heh heh, poison, yeah... but don't think that hole can be enlarged to 3", not on the modded extension baffle board anyway...

Well neo79, guess what (don't laugh ya), for now (these two words are very important key words), I'm running the Dyns active, right off my Alpine CDA-9833 built-in internal amp, just wondering how the Dyns will sound like without an amp, and since I always take things one step at a time, sometimes half a step... Luckily I'm running it active, as expected, the internal amps do not like to drive the 3" diameter voice coils... hafta set the tweeter level some 6dB down just to compensate and balance the sound... and the mid bass is thin, expected. well, don't start heavily racuning me with amps yet, although some suggestions are welcomed...

LCP,

A word of caution, mate - careful with the onboard amp from the HU as its power rating are very low and you cud do some serious damage to the drivers by under-powering them. If you wanna run em active, even a simple 4 channel amp with about 50W x 4 shud be just good though more power is ideal since the Dyns are built to take on more. I've seen some guys using the AudioSystem 4 channel amp - can't remember the model but it's a 125W x 4 design with the Dyns with very good effect. A new one is going for about RM 1.6K or so if I remember correctly.

Cheers,
VaN.

LCP,

No worries, got lots of ways to skin a cat right??? ;-) As long as you are happy with how you work it out. :)

9833 is not too bad a HU. Should be sufficient for your Dyns. A buddy is running his Dyns(same model) using a Brax X2000 and 9855. Now he switched over to HX-D2. With the Brax, its more than enough to push the Dyns. The Dyns felt more livelier, tonal balance is good and best of all, it is just so melodic! Its so sweet to the ears but its a bit colorless. But not to his liking, cos he prefers something warm. When he switched to the D2, the whole setup is warmer and Tsai Qin sounds much more real. BTW, he is runnign on Cardas RCA.

Come to these high end babies, I think Van should have more experience. Hehehe.. Me cant afford to go there yet. Especially Dyns, not many amps can play the fella.

Yep, Van, plenty of limitation in terms of headroom for HU's built-in amp, it can easily put out clipped waveform and damage speakers easily, tweeters especially.

The 9833's built-in "V-Drive" amp has a little bit more headroom than most other HUs, the CEA-2006 compliant rating is at 26W RMS per channel, other HU can only managed 18W RMS or so under the CEA-2006 condition.

The sound from the Dyns seemed different with each day of running-in, getting better now, don't hafta cut the tweets so much now, and mid bass level getting better. The signature Dyn sound is there.

LCP,
Do you mind letting me know the shop & address of the place you went to for the installation and if you would recommend it. Am from penang and am thinking of upgrading std system on E90 325. Thinking of putting in DVD player + upgrades. Thanks!

Shop is Golden Auto, in Bukit Jambul, and yes, I'd recommend them for high end hi-fi installation.

HI LCP.

I know, its been nearly a year, so what improvements you have got with your Dynaudios?

I am also a Dyn user. So care to share?
