E28driver,

Honestly, I wud not be able to suggest much cos I always run my splits via the onboard crossover of my HU - to my ears atleast, they sound a lot cleaner and setting em up is much easier/straight-forward compared to outboard/external ones. But, if your HU does not come with one, you'll be looking at some new or used ones (purely from my own experience) from Audiocontrol, Alto Mobile, Tru Technologies, older models from US brands such Phoenix Gold, Precision Power, Zapco, Blade Technologies, Rockford Fosgate's Symmetry range and a few more along the same line. A poor/lousy active crossover could wreck havoc in your system and throw everything off-balance ...

Alternatively, I believe that a few people here are running custom made active crossovers from Simon Teh of Tehnichi using much of the technology derived from now defunct Blade Technologies Inc. You might wanna check if he's able to custom make a set for you to match the Dyns driver characteristics and tech data.

Perdanatt,

Are you getting a used pair or new ones ? The RW165 terminal connectors are pretty hardy stuff IMO, as with most Seas drivers. Why not just go a new pair if you're buying used instead ?

Cheers,
Van.

Yo Van, any inputs from your pals on running the Dyns active with the impedance matching circuit in place? No rush, a bit too tied up these few weeks to do anything much.

Hi bro,

My apologies - was caught up with work and setting up my own cut-price budget system !!! LOL ! Neway, all 3 came back and confirmed that none of them are running the impedance matching circuit in their set-up. All 3 are using their HU's electronic crossover for frequency setting and cut-offs. So there you have it, bro ...

Cheers,
VaN.

Van,
which brand/model of hu that have the xrossover built in? i better get hu that have this rather than installing an additional xrossover.
thanks a lot

Strider,

Most of the mid range units from Pioneer, Alpine, Eclipse and Kenwood have decent 2 or 3 way electronic cross-overs built in. The best that I have encountered are the ones from the Clarion DXZ & HX-D2 series, Alpine 7998R, 9813/15 & 9833/35 as well as the Eclipse 8 series decks. Not much experience with the Pioneers but been told that their 7xxx, 8xxx and 9xxx decks have very good built in e-cross as well.

Cheers,
VaN.

Hey Van. thanks.

As for the electronic crossover, I have the Alpine CDA-9833, cool little HU... but too bad Alpine started going downhill with that model year onwards.

Hey man,

That's a cracking piece of HU - one the best modern day Alpine decks. Sorry, but the newer ones with Glide Touch and what-nots are just not up to the mark of the older decks and get by thru pure marketing hype! BTW, the newer ones also have most of the core features of the old ones like 3 way e-cross, PEQ, TA, Bass Engine management and etc taken away. Why ? So that you'll be compelled to upgrade to an external Alpine processor like the PXA-H701 if you're serious about sound. Hang to the deck ... the 9833 and 9835 are still rather highly sought after by the ICE fanatics.

Cheers,
VaN.

Hi Van, yes the 9833/35 are still okay, but for that 2004 model year, Alpine was already showing signs of major cost cutting effort, beginning with the lower end HUs... the 982x series and possibly the 9830/31 also. I will definitely hang on to my 9833, or else it wouldn't have made its way out of my Satria into my E36.

lcp,

you might wanna check the price again. cos the 240mkII dont cost 1.9k unless its useed unnit, even used unit dont cost so cheap. brand new 240mkII cost 2000>

pair it with brax ge...:D

Ah Neo, drive bimmer cannot play ICE hor. U'll end up with not only a hole in yur pocket, there'll be no pockets required har!

Agree agree.... initially when I just bought a bimmer that was   .... however, just could not stand listening to singers sounded as though there have running nose or blocked nose. Therefore without pockets also have to spend a 'little' on ICE.
:D :D :D

Funk,

OT liao! Come we go TT and I show you why Bimmer + ICE = Heaven = Pu$$y wagon.. Hahhaa

Tsk tsk... I dun dare to ask you to show proof ler... May end up sitting on a significant pool of dead spermicides in your ride.

Go clean up before I come!

Wokay, got the Dyns installed yesterday, total bill came up to RM2265 including labour, cables (and whatever materials) and mod job on the door panels. Oops, forgot that I paid RM400 for the door panels from a chop shop. Running them in slowly now, very detailed sound.

Whoops, didn't take any photos during the install, will take some of the finished product tomorrow...

Here are the photos:

1) Front left modded door panel, due to some miscommunication, the stock tweeter hole was also "modded", but in the end it was plugged up (from inside).

Nice install. Dyn 240Mk II + labor = RM2.3K very good price too. BTW LCP, mind showing us the x-over too? BTW, what amp you pairing it with? Thanks.

LCP,

Nice one. Anyway, the modded tweeter location on the kicks can always be enlarged to fit a 3 inch mid range later! You're all set for a 3-way front set-up if the bug were to bite you! What amp/s are you powering the setup with anyway ?

Cheers,
VaN.
