Bro, the airbag is not on the side door lah, is on the upper right side pillar of the wind screen.

Avoid this thing bro. It doesn't really enhance your listening pleasure especially in a BMW. This is what it will do: It will increase the weight of your door substantially although the dynamat stuff itself is not heavy. Because of this youf fuel consumption will increase, your overall driving performance will decrease.

My bass.. E90 is coming from the woofers and that's not in the doors but under the seat.. so you statement is not 100% correct.. mid-bass, then maybe..

OK, sorry about the noob question, but does this apply to E46 as well??
coz when the installer opened my door card, there's an airbag box which i've got no idea what it was on my E46. So not too sure if its the same as E9x

Not really a noob question buddy. :wink: The safety system of a car comprises many components, all of which act together, not individually. An ACU (ECU module) monitors accelerometers, impact sensors, pressure sensors, wheel speed sensors, gyroscopes, brake pressure sensors, and seat occupancy sensors to determine the area, angle and severity of a crash or roll-over. Various systems are then deployed when the ACU decides (in milliseconds): airbags, seat-belt pretensioners, seat back and head restraint pretensioners, pedal releases, you name it.

The head airbag is in the A-pillar, the curtain airbag is in the headliner, and side torso airbag is in the seat. But that's not where the sensors are, or they would be pretty useless for detecting changes in inertia. The side sensor is indeed in the doors, which is where the car can be hit, and is either a pressure sensor or MEMS accelerometer, or both.

Installing aftermarket space fillers won't necessarily disable the sensors, but of course one has to consider whether the added cushioning will affect their efficiency. Servicing/replacing them may also be messy.

Unfortunately our E90 doesn't have the side torso airbags in the seat. Must be some Malaysian spec option? CBU and CKD are affected, but US E90s has them. Local E46's have front door airbags but our E90's don't as well.

I don't know about the 325i and 320i, but the CKD 325i Sports has side torso airbags in the front seats. There will be a plastic sign if you have them, and also look in your manual. What we don't have are curtain airbags, but the head airbags are probably designed to replace them. My Sports has 8 airbags in all - front, side, front head and rear head. Not the most available in today's cars, but better than most. From the manual, ours sounds like an intelligent system with an algorithm in the ALU to decide which system to deploy. Eg, in a low speed crash, the airbags won't deploy as the seat belts will be enough. Nor will they deploy on the passenger side if no one is sitting there.

Yup, I was mistaken. For my car the torso airbag is indicated by a label stitching attached to the front seats but no visible plastic cover with Airbag printed on it on the side of the seats (a sports seat feature?)

Yes, I thought so. That manual is generic for all E90s isn't it? The M-seat has a large plastic cover on the seat side, housing the airbag.

Re-looking at the diagram in the manual, the 'head' airbags look more like curtain bags than tubular head bags at the A and C pillars. Wonder what they actually are and where they're positioned. Curtain would be better actually because they're acknowledged to be more effective. Head bags were introduced in the late nineties by none other than BMW, but then Volvo introduced the curtain bag and other car manufacturers followed that design.

I think they are curtain airbag but just worded differently in our E9x spec sheet.

"Front to Rear head airbags, covering the entire side window area"

Ahh! Then they ARE curtain bags, which is good. Methinks BMW has a problem with dropping the term 'head airbags' which is credited to them, and refuses to call them 'curtain airbags' which is credited to Volvo...LOL

I recently noticed there's an "Achtung!" message on the windshield that says there's airbag in the dashboard, so the passenger must be seated as far as possible from the dash... I wonder how it should be done..???!!! .. especially for the driver?
