mielo mentioned vibration only at idling.

if it spark plug or coil problem, it would affect at other speed as well

Few months ago I changed my engine and gearbox mounting, it also eliminated vibrations during idling...during cruising there was hardly any vibration felt prior changing

If idling problem, sure RPM will flactuating or drop below 500.

If RPM stable but still feel strong vibration, I also think it something to do with engine / gearbox mounting.

Hi, try check cooling fan behind radiator? If got broken blade, it also can cause slight vibration..

agreed..dont think is coil or spark plug..ive have experience with car having that problem before..this is diferent..the car shaking wild only when idling without the AC (RPM down a little bit). if AC on then no problem..

what your RPM when aircon is OFF and when aircon is ON?

Hi bro ,dont mistake me cause my friends car had the idling problem but turn out to be the spark plug which was not the right one, so i just advice to check not change. and it was not the idle valve. sorry don't get me wrong...........adious.

This seems to be a standard problem on straight engines. I took delivery of my brand new F10 last month and noticed that the engine/car shakes during initial/cold start and lasts for about 1.5 minutes. Took it to service centre and they could not diagnose the problem. Problem still persists. Written to BMW Germany and awaiting response.

with AC the RPM about 1000...without AC the RPM down to abput 600RPM..will conform letter

mine is not 6, just plain old 4 in line..idling badly when AC is not on...if AC on ok...

Normally, the idling speed should be 750 to 780 rpm whether the aircon is ON or OFF.

The fact that your idling speed is 600 rpm when the aircon is OFF indicated that your ICV is not controlling
the idling speed properly. At low rpm of less than 680, vibration is expected or can be feel at the steering wheel.

Check your ICV. The vane in the ICV could be sticky. Most mechanic will removed the ICV and sprayed lubricating
oil like WD40 to remove the dirt trapped in the ICV. If it doesn't work, then they will recoomend that you change it.
(Usually they will spray with WD40 and shake it. They will then drain the oil and blow dry with compress air).

BTW, 1000rpm idling speed is too high. You might need to adapt the idling speed with a GT1 or INPA diagnostic tool.

very good info mr jarance...thanks alot..p/s: the RPM with AC on is about 800 and 600 AC off...sory with the wrong info before this..just my 2 cent, wasent it suppose to be the other way around, meaning the car suppose to shaking when the AC is on? and vise versa??

yes, there are cases when the aircon is ON, vibration is also felt at the steering wheels
and no vibration when the aircon is OFF.

This is due to the additional load of the A/C compressor and the idling speed
could not be maintained by the ICV. The symptom is usually when you observe that the idling
speed is around 780 rpm (ac ON) and around 650 rpm (ac OFF).

The above case is quite common in most car and your case (reverse) is quite unusual.

Also as pointed by some of the earlier postings, worn out engine mounting is also one of the cause of vibration.

Can you try this test?

Off the aircon and use your fuel pedal and slow raise to idling speed to around 780 rpm and
check whether the vibration is reduce.

I have exact same problem, do keep us posted on the progress.

sory to miss another key point in my problem...the shaking occur when the AC is off while in D gear...no shaking observe when AC is on while in D gear....sory to miss the point regarding the position of the gear when it shaking...
