even second hand also less than 5k..try pm bro seram or search his topic. he done it before in cheras or sumwhere. btw..urs is GM1 or GM5 gearbox?

well lotsa ppl just throw in prices here and there these day .... it could be a mere faulty relay IMHO .....

Maybe you can get some information about your gear box overhaul from our CM Mr Herbert.

Thanks a lot guys, for the information.

Well, what happened was, the "D" gear does not seem to response well every morning or after i have switched off the engine for a long time. It is fine with "R" gear, but the moment i switch it back to "D" gear to drive forward, it will lag for a while.

Even if it moves, the moment i lift my foot from the accelerator pedal, it will kind of like shake a bit at the beginning of the journey. It works fine after a while on the road.

Was told that my gearbox is currently working at 60% of its intended power, while the 40% was already lost.

I can't tell if mine is a GM1 or GM5 gear box but it is a 2004 E46 318i.

By the way, what is IMHO?

You could try this company :

Mission Auto Transmission Specialist Located at 10 Jalan Metro Perdana Barat 7 Sri Edaran Industries Park, 52100 Kuala Lumpur. Contact person : Collin 019-2644097

They did a complete overhaul of my E38 728i ZF5HP18 gear box in July. Replaced full set gasket set, clutch set, brake band, auto filter, piston seals, some springs and ATF. Gear box been running great since. Cost around RM5K

Their clients are BMW/Merc Specialist workshops and direct walk in.

dear BMW seniors,

i just got back from one of the recommended gearbox speacilist here and was quoted around RM7,500 to overhaul my E46 318i GM5 gearbox plus changing the gear box cooling system, ie the aluminum box attached to the radiator... is this price reasonable?

i was quite imprssed with him, and think he is an honest guy, but still, would want to listen to all your opinion before i make my final decision on this. well, RM7,500 is not a small sum of money...

please advise...
