I had this problem few months ago. During fast acceleration, the turbine hissing (high frequency) sound can be heard noticeabily. There is also slight drop in power during acceleration. But there is no heavy smoke from the exhaust I complaint to one of authorised SC in Northern region and they said it is possibly due to turbo. FYI - the 530d E60 are using Garret GT2260V - just a small turbo. I sent to the other outside w/shop which is quite reliable to my opinion and he checked to source the hissing ( like boiled water whistling sound) using the stroboscope and detect the sound comes from turbo. He dismantled and said the bearing of the turbine already worn out. I asked to find the turbo kit to change the bearing but none in the local market. Ebay france has offered this kits but do not know how to order. To change new turbo cost me about RM9,000. Try to get goodwill claim from northern SC but failed. Finally I contacted AB SC Jalan Segambut where most of the service were done over there before the car migrated to Kulim. He asked to bring the car so he can work out the issue. Sent last Wednesday and on thursday afternoon got called from SC asked to me to collect the car. Wow ... it is superfast. SC told me they fixed the issue without changing the turbo. Actually the issue was there is a leak at inlet manifold producing hissing/whistling sound. That result in drop in power. I end up just have to pay RM150 only plus cost of travelling to send the car from Kulim to KL of RM500. Kudos to SC Segambut - you have done good job. Morale of this story, try to get many many opinions before fixing the issue.
