I had this problem few months ago. During fast acceleration, the turbine hissing (high frequency) sound can be heard noticeabily. There is also slight drop in power during acceleration. But there is no heavy smoke from the exhaust I complaint to one of authorised SC in Northern region and they said it is possibly due to turbo. FYI - the 530d E60 are using Garret GT2260V - just a small turbo. I sent to the other outside w/shop which is quite reliable to my opinion and he checked to source the hissing ( like boiled water whistling sound) using the stroboscope and detect the sound comes from turbo. He dismantled and said the bearing of the turbine already worn out. I asked to find the turbo kit to change the bearing but none in the local market. Ebay france has offered this kits but do not know how to order. To change new turbo cost me about RM9,000. Try to get goodwill claim from northern SC but failed. Finally I contacted AB SC Jalan Segambut where most of the service were done over there before the car migrated to Kulim. He asked to bring the car so he can work out the issue. Sent last Wednesday and on thursday afternoon got called from SC asked to me to collect the car. Wow ... it is superfast. SC told me they fixed the issue without changing the turbo. Actually the issue was there is a leak at inlet manifold producing hissing/whistling sound. That result in drop in power. I end up just have to pay RM150 only plus cost of travelling to send the car from Kulim to KL of RM500. Kudos to SC Segambut - you have done good job. Morale of this story, try to get many many opinions before fixing the issue.

So the outside shop tried to con you by saying turbine bearing worn out?

I think he is quite honest but lack of trobuleshooting skill

That is funny...i had the same problem.
noticed it 2 months ago..until the noise got louder.
it is when u on low speed and press gently to accelerate,
u will then hear the hissing sound.

I normally service my car too at AB Segambut.
At first they said maybe hose issue.
Check and then said hose no problem.
So Turbo Leak...must change turbo...8k.
I said WHAT! They then apply for warranty claim.
Got it. And they just fixed in my new turbo last week.
The sound has disaapered....who is ur SA?

So now we know that SC Segambut is the best to rectify the turbo diesel problem. I was refered to Saravanan

MRT,

What year is your 530d and what KM already clock in... mine is 2005 and already done 105,000 KM. I also have installed HARTGE chips to my diesel

Mine is Nov 2005, about 104800km lol quite close to urs!
Same problem too
Oh btw, it is not a 530d, a 525d instead.

That a good thing about AB that they still can give goodwill warranty.

That is why I stongly encourage people to buy local BMW

Well for those wno want to know, it is 2 year unlmited warranty on parts
or 3 years but must be less than 100k KM for goodwill.
As for the goodwill, dont take it for granted. U got to "fight" for it.
Insists on it. Remember BMW is not cheap to buy or repair.
Anyway, another advice is make sure u file all minor complaints as well
when u do ur service. Dont give chance.
Example: My Car got this "problem", pls check on it.
After ur warranty expire, they will normally refer whether u have made
such complaints earlier in their consideration of goodwill.
IMHO, BMW is by no way like the Jap in term of reliability. However the
overall satisfaction makes it up for the little or annoying problems as
long as it dont happen to often.
In my 2.5 years of ownership, I went there 5 times for Bluetooth issue (until they replaced it), twice for power window, 3 times for "central electronic" issue and recently the Turbo issue...zzz
This is my 3rd BMW though

I even requested AB to change the driver side leather seat due to the upper portion is a bit worn out and they changed for me.

I also requested they change my absorber but they asked me to convert back to stock. BTW the BODE absorber price is about RM600/each front or back.

MRT, have you changed all your absorber, I have changed the rear and thinking of changing the front, it is a bit floating already

LOL! I also asked AB the same thing on my last service.
Told them my car also feels a bit floaty. I have not changed any yet.
Sara said at 100k wear and tear on the absorbers are normal.
So he checked on the parts to be replaced and the amount,
if i did not remember wrongly, was about rm8k.
He said must change the absorbers and bushings.
Your 600 is from AB or 3rdParty? I think AB is selling at 1500 per piece.
Most likely I will change it outside.

I bought a pair of rear absorber at RM750/each.

Recently I asked one shop in penang and he quaoted me RM600/each regardless front or rear ; BODE or SACHS

What bushing you are refering to?

It happens to me somewhere early this year...manage to kaw-tim by changing the manifolds altogether, as adviced by them, of course fight for my goodwill.

Now diff prob occurs, well, it happens couple of months back, i'm facing the issue of my car cant start even with few attempts. I've to called a tow truck to pick my car and sent it to Glenmarie. Verdict: I've changed the control unit as required since they doesnt have any idea what exactly the cause after diagnosed my car.

The best part is, couple of weeks after collecting my car, the same 'ol prob occurs again which I'm facing now.....my car cant start again. I've made my complaint even up to BMW Malaysia ,VJ and Stephan Rausch(this german dude just another imbecile and arrogance mat salleh) required assistance, a courtesy car, since its their mistakes asking me changed the control unit which they claimed is the issue.......

Now, i dont even bother with BMW Malaysia, since they dont even know how to assist me, and I probably ask someone from AB to collect my car in 1 to 2 days time. I do realise now that BMW Malaysia & AB will only take care of you while under warranty; after that, dont even bother to assist your request.

Personally, I love my car & BMW badge, but because of the ppl working in the BMW Mal, believe me, my next car will not be BMW again.

My Q:

Which trustworthy outside workshop cld handle diesel engine, nd hlp guys

Wow! That's a bit scary to hear.

Sorry to butt in, but I'm thinking of bringing back either a 530d or 535d from the UK... clearly workshop/mechanic/parts support is a crucial consideration.

Hey guys,

Hmm kinda scary reading these horror stories about diesel E60. Actually I'm contemplating of getting one, possibly a 525d since I'll be doing ALOT of travelling with this car(averaging 5,000km a month), but after reading ya guys story, I think I might have to re-consider.

What do u guys think? Do you recommend me getting the 525d or just the plain petrol version? Personally I like the diesel version since it's very economical and I can go very far on a single full tank, but with all the problems, and our low quality high sulphur content diesel fuel, is it a wise decision to get one?

Is it possible to install a turbo timer in a 530d?

Hi all!

I would like to find out if any of you 530d owners install a turbo timer to your car?
Does it really helps lengthen the life of the turbo?
As you know most turbo cars are fitted or will have to install these kind of timers.

I have already changed my 530d turbo a year ago and the cost of it really burns the pockets. Dun wanna go through the same thing again.

Hope to hear your advice!

Thanks.

Hi,

There is no need to fix a turbo timer, all you need to do is ensure you drive normally for the last couple of mins before switching off.

It is quite difficult to drive normally with all the 'power on command'!

Know of anyone who may be interested in a 530D? Thanks
