Hi Guys Saw it in flesh in Sunway Piramid
IMG_0597.jpg
Attracted by the 320NM torque and range of 900km per full tank. What do you guys think? Cheers

If I'm not mistaken, it comes with powershift..aka DSG in milder form.
I think this is a very, very good buy, as an alternative to Civic/Altis/Lancer GT.

Given the torque and control blade suspension setup, I think it'll diesel-smoke the above cars on B-roads.

Yes. Its comes with Powershift similar to new Volvo S40 but read somewhere that it does have some realibility issues. It can def smoke many B Segment car though (hopefully Ramsing's BlackPearl as well) He he he

Also, what is "control blade suspension" ?

Fabian,

Yes, i believe it can be reprogramemd. think DKTuning from Penang can do it. Contacted them about my current ride. Seems like they can reprogramme many current cars.

Wow! who need 320d! Albundy, u r right!

wait!

"The Focus TDCi has the latest 2-litre DuraTorq turbodiesel which produces 134 bhp but more importantly, its torque is rated at 320 Nm – and it peaks early in the rev range at 2000 rpm."

134bhp? KNN! My 320i NA petrol has more ponies than that la! Turbo pulak.. chehh..!

Exactly. 320i no need to say.

Did anyone test drove it befor? Wonder can get any good discount or not?

My boss Was offered a pre-reg focus ghia at rm20k off. With just 700km on the clock

Ford Control Blade™ Suspension

Control blade is basically an evolution of trailing-arm suspension. The purpose of Control Blade suspension is two-fold. First they wanted to separate the various suspension functions from each other - isolating the handling components from the ride qualiy components. With the springs and shock absorbers being mounted separately, Ford have managed to optimise the function of these components. It's similar in concept to what BMW did with the telelever front suspension on motorbikes (separating braking from suspension forces) only in the Ford system, it separates the springing support of the suspension from the shock reducing functions of the shock absorbers.

Secondly it increases the interior space available in the vehicle. Most suspension systems used in daily drivers have strut towers in the rear of the vehicle - those bumps either side of the boot (trunk). Ford wanted to give more space in the back and needed to find a good way to remove or reduce the size of those towers. With Control Blade™, because the shock absorbers are separated from the springs, it opened up a lot more design flexibility. Ford used a trailing-arm type suspension so that they didn't have swingarms up under the wheel arches and the springs were shortened and moved inboard and underneath. In one variation, the shock absorbers still sit vertically but the space they take up now is hugely reduced because they no longer have the coil springs around the outside. In the second variation the shock absorber is a subminiature unit mounted inboard of the springs underneath the vehicle. The control blades themselves are basically the trailing arms which give lateral support and provide the vertical pivot point for the entire unit.

The Ford spiel says this about Control Blade™: "It has the key function of promoting ride and reducing road noise transmission, while providing the freedom to let the lateral links define toe and camber by absorbing any rearward forces and allowing the rest of the suspension to do it's job uninterrupted. Effectively isolating the handling components of the new IRS from the road noise and impact harshness components of the suspension.". In English? It means better handling and less road noise. Looking at the basic design it's not difficult to see that this system has a much lower centre of gravity than a Macpherson strut (for example). Lower C-of-G in a vehicle is always a good thing. The geometry of the Control Blade™ system also provides significant 'anti-dive' under braking force, which means a the car body will dive less when you jump on the brakes which in turn translates into more well-behaved braking response. Lower C-of-G, less roll and less pitch during braking all add up to better handling.

177hp is not what us poor Malaysians are getting with our Euro 2M diesel...

Anyway, they are not in the same price range..
But it's interesting to see that Ford is bringing it in in the more affordable price bracket. However, Malaysians in general are still diesel-skeptics..

Tested the car last Sunday, Not as fancy as the 320d but for that price. I think it's still reasonable ! The dashboard looks cheap though... Asked the Sales advisor for discount, she says don't have ! Have to top up another RM600 for the racing lines on the car...I did notice some flaws with the car also...

1. Brakes felt spongy
2. The so called DSG is not responsive
3. The engine rev is as rough like my Triton engine (the 320d felt more free revving)
4. The interior looks cheap (the test drive car gearknob was even a loose one)

The car is being fully imported from Thailand, that why the price is so reasonable.

Just my 2 cents....

Its ok...I loved my Civic 2L before I bought the 320d. Its a good car to own the Civic2L and I am sure the Ford Focus TDCi is a good car too.And the price too....half the price of the 320d. Its a good car to own for that price range.

The Ford Mondeo received rave reviews, won a gazillion awards...but when I tested it, it just didn't gel...and I was driving the Civic 2L then, not the 320d. So, a lot of the times, you got to go out, sit in the car, drive it and not only look at figures and reviews etc....

So it can only get better when the diesel grade improves here in Malaysia.... Already its so torquey! Bullies all the other cars...sorry to the Merc C class cars I constantly overtake!

John_Smith,

thanks for the info but I am more dazzled now. Too technical.

Sunnypuan,

Great somment. Agreed with you about the interior. Thats the one thing that is bothering me. Hate those oval shop air vent. But can't commment much on the gearbox though as i have never experience VW DSG before. Heck, i didn't even sat in the car before.

I may be testing it this Sat and will pay attention to those thins you mentioned.

cheers

docray boy,

did you hear anything about better diesel? Was told that gov is looking at Euro4 now. Don't want to be behind both our tomyam and kiasu neighbor

gov is no doubt looking at Euro 4... It's like guys sitting at the bar looking at the chicks across the bar.. hehe.. Question is when and who will go chat them up... haha..
