What do you think the residuals for a brand new 525i Sports is going to be like after 24mths or 36 mths?

Crap answer...

Well, residuals are important when you are considering a purchase. BMW offers a low interest rate of 1.78% for 7 year financing for a new 525i Sports with a downpayment of about RM40k and RM4.5k monthly installments. The loan outstanding after 24 mths and 36 mths are approximately RM275k and RM225k respectively. Hence if the residuals are above the loan outstanding then it is only the question of how much of the initial deposit you can recover. Monthly installments are paid by the company hence is not in question. It's like paying RM40k to use an E60 for 2 to 3 years. It will be easy for the buyer to obtain financing for a 2-3 year old car.

The comparison would be to buy a Japan Spec 2004 525i or 530i for about RM260k and take a 5 year loan with RM4.5k monthly installments. Loan outstanding after 24 mths and 36 mths are RM153k and RM107k respectively but then it would be a 5-6 year old car and the new model should be out in about 2/3 years time.

The new car will have full warranty plus new toys whilst with the older car, I stand to gain some $ when I sell the car then but would be open to repairs, replacement parts etc without warranty.

If residuals are likely to float in the region >RM272k after 24 mths or >RM225k after 36 mths then I will pick up the new car.

Does anyone know if BMW Malaysia will be running any pre-reg campaigns soon? Don't want to be caught with my pants down a few weeks down the road. Thanks

Fully agree with you and if I were you I will also consider buying new.

However it will be much better if you could double check if there is any pre-reg available as this will be much better offer :)

Thanks. Called Sheila (Glenmarie) but she won't be back until next week. See how it pans out.

u might wanna check with orix, kuwait fin house etc.. they offer leasing with zero downpayment and free maintenance on unreg cars.. u can do your calculations based on that too.. of course ull be paying higher instalments, but when u 'return' the car, i believe u wont lose as much as buying new.. works well with company than individuals..

Are you sure KFW offers an ijarah structure for new cars? Sounds like a plan

ive been pointed out, not offered.. better check with them directly.. :top:

called my friend, she said should be offered to public 1st quarter next yr if not 2nd..

I was wondering if the engine actually pushes out 218BHP as it is still a 2.5l engine whilst the UK 525i SP comes with a 3.0l engine with 218BHP. If so then it must be pretty stressed. However, it is 20NM lower in torque relatively.

Does it come with direct injection as well?

The E60 525i share the same new magnesium engine with E90 325i which produces 218 bhp and 250 nm torque. Sweet engine!

The facelift E60 525i is supposed to get the newer N53 Direct Injection 2.5 ltr. Sadly still 218hp, same as the N52 2.5 valvetronic. The 523 and 530 saw some hp gains when it adopted the DI over valvetronic.

Yes, but the torque on the N53 DI is better. I think its 265 Nm vs. 250 Nm. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yea the torque is much improved. If I am not mistaken, its 270 Nm for the N53 2.5 ltr and peaks out at a lower 2400-4200 rpms than our N52 @ 2750 - 4250 rpm. BMW engineers have done it again. The newer the engine is, the lower rpm peak torque arrives. I dont believe any N/A mass production petrol engine has these sorts of characteristics. Certainly not from MB or Lexus at least! Should be more meaty to drive!!

I wonder how the new engine sounds tho, since the valvy mechanism is now gone. Is it even wilder?

I just realized, the figures I got was for a N53B30 for the foriegn spec 525. Its a 3 ltr. Maybe JPB's 265Nm figure is right for the 2.5 ltr N53.

Anyways, I was told the higher torque at lower rpms makes the N53 DI a lot nicer to drive even though only slight improvement in 0-100 kmh.
