On the way back to Bangsar from Mid Valley, this Volvo V50 T5 took me on the left in an apparent hurry. I love this road cos it's got some serious sweepers and bends. Anyways, I decided to tail the fella at 2-3 car lengths distance and see how I could keep up on the curvy sections. To my amusement, at one bend, I could hear the V50's wheels squeeeling big time and even the rear wheels giving way slightly while my E46 took that stretch with far more composure and less drama! I was pretty surprised. Then, on the straight section the Volvo sped away but I couldn't do much cos my dad was sitting next to me. Few seconds later, Mazin a.k.a. WHL called to scream at me that this was the second time in 2 days I was overtaking him without saying Hi...
T-5 .... they are some serious fast machine on tha straight .... with loads of torque ... once it boost ..... they burn some serious front rubber ... but for hardcore cornering .... i'll take Beemer anytime ... :nyehehe:
I think this point was made before and I'm trying to corroborate it with a personal experience. I admit I dunno how much faster the V50 T5 would have been cos I didn't manage to 'try' but with such cornering inadequacy, I wouldn't drive it like I'm pretending to be Kimi Raikonnen unless it's a straight highway all the way... It's great value for money tho and helluva car to go shopping for furniture in Ikea. Bravo the Swedes!! They think of everything don't they!!
You should have had a box of toufu in the back of your trunk and a cup of water mounted on your dashboard... Sure can do what the AE86 did to the Skyline GT-R
JPB - shame shame!! You got beaten by a Volvo !!!! How can?? kek kek kek... Sure sounds like it has striaght line superiority due to the low end torque ... but you still have the upper hand on corners..
Bro, you arr... with some ppl in the car, not worth getting a lecture lah! I'm very sure the Volvo don't stand a chance on corners but I'm not sure how it stacks on straight line cos I didn't even try. If I had gone all the way, I suspect he might have kept a slight edge on the straights but would have been very disconcerted and uncomfortable cos he wouldn't have created enough distance before I start to hassle him at the corners. Overall, I think your or my BMW can handle the Volvo V50 T5 on a sensible stretch.
Next time, DO slow down and wave to him. There may be someone you would like him to introduce you to sitting in the passenger seat................
on a personal note... My late father owns a 850 T5. So when i first got my licence, I was driving that car a lot. I have to agree it's FAST!!!!! and practical too. It was the perfect Q car... everyone thinks it's slow but at traffic lights you can smoke people easily. It's not so much as low end torque, but the torque band is wide. So in gear acceleration is like WOW! and top speed of 235 is like nothing, sekejap saja sampai.... anyways... it's my personal view
The 850 T5 is iconic. Few weeks back, I made a trip to Ipoh in my friend's S500L where we were suppose to meet a client to escort us to a factory. On sighting my client's 850 T5 Estate, the S500L driver went on "sports" mode and remarked, wahhh... that unker must be fast driver!!
yeah lah.. Amereth's car something wrong one lah... got whining sound one, from the engine .. and somemore got 3 pedals instead of 2... smething not right with the car one.... cabutzzzzzzz
