I see. Previously all new bimmers came with four. So the number of keys is decreasing. Interesting. Salut
First time i heard BMW used to give out 4 keys.My former E90 also got 2 keys.Since my Kapchai days upgraded to.countless models and brands of car always got 2 keys..
Which brings me to my point which bears repeating - How easy it is to steal a bimmer depends on whether it's brand new or recond. Brand new bimmers (previously) come with four keys and now the F10 comes with two keys, which are all given to the new owner. A recond bimmer may come with the complete set of keys (if you are lucky), but it's usually less. So there is a high possibility one or more of your keys are in the hands of the recond car dealer or some other unscrupulous people. My personal advice - BUY THE BEST STEERING LOCK YOU CAN AFFORD - if you buy a recond F10, or any other recond bimmer, and get less than four or two keys. In fact, even if you have a brand new bimmer - BUY THE BEST STEERING LOCK YOU CAN AFFORD. After all what's a few hundred ringgit to safeguard your quarter-of-a-million-ringgit, or more, investment. Salut
you can actually disable the keys that you dont have. The EWS is usually supplied with 3 or 4 keys. If the key is "lost", you can add another 6 keys to the EWS. with the revolving coding of EWS3, the lost key can be de-syn after a certain number of starts. The usually happen with spare key that is kept in your house. (sometime problem of de-syn is also due to weak battery). When the de-syn happen, you cannot open the door via remote function. However, you can still open the door via the mechanical lock and start the car. So for safety measure, it is better to disable the lost keys to prevent it from being used to start the car. It is recommend to swap the spare key with the daily use key and charge it every 3 months.
Unfortunately that's the problem. I am using an Absa Abloy steering lock and just live with the scratches my steering wheel trim for the sake of safety. Perhaps some of the other forummers here have the solution. Salut
Nowadays burglars/thieves are very daring. They don't have to pry open your doors but instead, wait for you to get back to the car and point a knife at you. In my believe, the stock immobilizer is quite reliable and what you can do is try parking your car at a well lit place and ensure it's not secluded/dark. Just my 2 cents
I think it's hard to say, we just have to be vigilante about our surroundings. The GPS tracker is a good investment, I'd reckon.
what if the car is driven in a basement without phone lines? i bet they can disable the tpa/ gps tracker in a few minutes..
