Guys,Need technical help.A fren of mine, using an E36 325 auto coupe (5 sp auto) blew his engine - overheatingHe got a few options;1) Rebuild the engine - piston 6 koyak2) Buy 2.5 engine and plonk it in3) Put 2.8 M52 engineFor option 3; 1) Will it fit ?2) Wiring ?3) ECU ?4) Gearbox ECU ?5) Problem ?
Assuming he is buying an engine kosong, everything should fit in nicely. The only thing is whether the Bosch ECU is adequate for the M52 engine, meaning to say the engine could be a little on the lean side since its a 2.5 ECU. A remap maybe needed.
I can do the remap on the 2.8 ... but on the 2.5 - it's chip replacement .. Hmmm ... Jeff - not me lah .. my good fren .... My car - still running-in .. another 2,000 miles to go .... :nyehehe:
i got chip... potato chip....hahhaah.. ok,ok.. i got two types of chip, one AA and the other made in boleh-land.. cheap or chip..
Aiya the potato chip is meant for the ori 2.5 engine. For the 2.8 need a different chip.... What needs to be done, dyno the car after the plonking in the 2.8 engine. Send the AFM chart to a reputable tuner - Superchip and have them customised a program for it That being said, the extra 300cc made a difference!! No replacement for displacement! :nyehehe:
If the cost of overhauling is big, then might as well plonk in another 2.5 M50 engine or recon block as suggested by Pussy- at least you can be sure it will run without any further modifications/re-map etc & road tax remain same.
just plonk the m52b28 in, change the ecu and wiring harness and voila a 328i ....with 280Nm of torque...keep the 5speeder, its plug and play...
Heard from a salesman that even with higher cc engine, if the car is registered as 325, the road tax remains the same. My instinct says it's a complete bull. True? Geo
