Hi Guys,Just read an article regarding the Nikasil problem. My car is having the symptoms of the problem such as missing engine oil...I have also changed the engine cover seal but it does not solve the problem.I am wondering is it due to the Nikasil problem? My car is manufactured November 2000 CKD M54 525i model.

Nikasil is only on the early M52 brother..

M52 produced 1995-1998 only are using Nikasil, after that it used steel liners.

Ya that's what i read also...Ok then it must be other issue that caused it already.. know of any other known causes besides the engine cover seal?

I'm having the same issue. What oil are you using?

Maybe top overhaul?

err..i tot nikasil is only for the old v8?

Old M52 in the UK had an official recall due to the Nikasil problem....most got a replacement engine under BMW warranty back then.

Try thicker oil 10W40

Yup. Tried Petronas Semi Sync before, same problem and the engine became rougher..so switched back to Shell fully sync.

Bro, according to my mechanic (one of the very reputable BMW workshops), all BMW engines consume engine oil. it's just at what rate. so even if engine's perfect with no leak anywhere, still have to check engine oil level every now and then.

any reason behind it? the engine design? how about the newer models..ie. F10/F30 engine?

All engines consume oil.
The difference of how much depends on many factors and the engine's characteristics:
- Older more worn out engines have looser fitting rings and components that leak more oil into the combustion chamber.
- Larger engines with more moving parts causes more oil spray which gets sucked into the intake via CCV system.
- More complex engines with variable valve timing systems and 4 valves per cylinder obviously have more areas that can leak a little bit more oil and it will all add up.
