Yes Thompson drove a brilliant race, the Alfa out of nowhere came up with the goods. In the first few races, the Alfas were really poor, can't even overtake privateers BMW & Seat. No doubt not having to carry success ballast helps him to gain speed down the long straight at Valencia.

Next race Thompson will be having 30kg of ballasts on his car so I don't think he will out accelerate other cars so easily.

Nicola Larini (currently 4th in the classification), Augusto Farfus (3rd) and Gabriele Tarquini (5th), will be given 45, 40 and 35 extra kilos respectively, while James Thompson will receive 30 kg as a consequence of his double victory in Spain.


In total 14 drivers are on ballast, including newcomer Anthony Beltoise.

Saw the previous race and the alfas were just not able to keep up a fight with the SEATs but 2 weeks later, they got a miracle pill...

The coming race would be interesting since the front runners are all on ballast...

i watched it so many times over eurosport... channel 84 on asstro at home on tuesday. repeated too many times. zog & juan, what have you been doing? watched it again last night on some star sports channel or something. can't remember in ascotts kl. look out channel 84 eurosports again. there should be many repeats, usually in the evening after 7.

when interviewed, thomson said the car set up was perfect and in the way that suits his style of driving.. hmmm... i wanted to go back to 156 and set up the car like thomson's. 156 is now cheap!

but equally impressive are the chevrolet. are chevy cars really that good?

Wah, agree much more exciting than F1! Haven't watched WTCC for a while and all the cars look fantastic esp the factory E90's.

Not sure who is leading the standings, but the ballast penalties which OSFlanker posted should give us some sort of indication. If I remember, being RWD also incurs a ballast penalty against FWD no?

RWD platform cars have a higher min weight compared to FWD platform cars.

Selespeed, I also want a touring car ;-) It would be easier to buy the BMW though, they sell the E46 WTCC spec car for about 50,000 Euro.........

I heard up in Thailand they have some BTCC cars, the E36 318iS and the 155 to be specific.

They also changed the starting procedure to allow the FWD a fighting chance. Previously with the traditional stationary start (as compared to the rolling start), the RWD BMWs killed all the alfas, chevy and SEATS!

Yeah, the F1 car is super fast especially when it comes to corners...that Williams F1 had a BMW engine on it.

The Alfa on steroid or something? How did it zoom passed everyone overnight... Can we see this happen with BMW Sauber passing the Ferraris and McLarens at Monaco?

yeah do they have wtcc spec alfa156? this would have been a "complete" car for me in every department. it cooked all other cars so easily. indeed alfa loves to run!

sorry, no e46 for me. can't accept the looks man. also no 155 i think it's too "crude" or outdated.
