In Malaysia a new Porsche Cayenne turbo S will cost atleast RM750k not including insurance and road tax.

Most people can't afford cars, most that do will buy a Camry (70% cars on the roads are Camry in my observation) and most people will only have bikes.
Petrol is $1.50 (RM4.60) per liter, and they sell it in 1L bottles on the roadside.
If you compare to Cambodia, I much prefer the expensive Malaysia![]()

Want to buy a car especially the conti type, then just bear with whatever prices your need to pay.
tIANcI;769974 said:Yes our Government taxes a lot on luxury cars and imported cars BUT let's not also forget that when we purchase a Conti we are also supporting the manufaturer/dealers with their lovely showrooms. Example ... Mini ... should it cost so much in Malaysia? Its not because of the Gov taxes only. BMW decided it should be a luxury item. There is more than meets the eye ok. I suspect the manufacturers are 'sharing' the lucrative income with the Gov. Sell higher price ... manufacturer makes more, Gov makes more.
Look at the Honda CRZ ... its RM115K when the Insight is only RM98K. CRZ was supposed to be RM125K but they decided to sell at RM115K. Why think of RM125K? Greedy la. Look at the E90 325 ... 310K but then when wanna dump can drop to a mere RM250K. Wow ... no profits ar? Got a lot laaaaa ... the list goes on and on. Basically, we are being screwed by those we rely upon to be fair. Gov is taxing us ... manufacturer is taxing us.
If we really feel that cars are too expensive, then just don't buy la. I mean we need to have priorities right? Since so expensive, drive something cheap and then can spend more on housing etc. When demand is low ... price will drop. But we still buy, then put up with the crappy quality and do really nothing about it. How la?

But the depreciation is so high, that the loss is unforgivable. Cars are not an asset and therefore i cant see why, we need to pay such high prices. Also road tax are ridiculous. I think the road tax should be calculated into the petrol. The more you use the more you pay. Anyway with the road tax, i don't see the benefits with so many port holes and uneven man holes that we encounter daily in our life plus the repairs to our shocks and alignment that we need to incur further.

As for the AP issue ... sorry la ... PR takes over they need to recover the RM9B income in taxes and duties that may be lost with the removal of taxes and duties. They say can lelong off APs. If they lelong off the APs it will come back to about the same la. No difference. Why? Because Malaysians are bloody greedy and dealers will still reduce a slight bit only. Just like tweiboon says look at the cost of conti car spares. Its all BS la ... come on. We are funding their nice nice showrooms.
I was told by a car dealer who knows about spares. He says the spares for like say BMW is not that expensive compared to the price we pay for at the retail end la. If it were that high how do they use BMWs in Germany for taxis. Taxis drivers are high mileage users and they will be price sensitive. I am not saying its dirt cheap but we are getting ripped off by the manufacturers.
Then as smike says ... lousy roads = higher wear and tear. Bloody Gov can't even build decent roads. At the end of the day, the Rakyat is screwed over. It never changes.
