Hi all, I'm new to this forum so I hope you guys will be gentle with me. :) As I'm undecided which of the two cars below to buy, I would like advice from all of you sifus here with regards to which one of them is more reliable: BMW E60 525i or Honda Accord 2.4 VTi-L?Because from what I gather, correct me if I'm wrong, it seems that our climate is not too kind to BMW engines, so much so radiator water leakage seem to be quite a common problem here. Transmission gear slippage, ATF oil leakage and what not also quite prevalent. As my budget is only RM175K maximum, I can only buy, maybe, a 2004-6 E60 M Sport 525i whereas for the same amount I can get myself a brand new Accord. Unfortunately, I love driving, therefore I'm tempted to go for the BM to have a taste of the UDM's handling. My concern is the hefty BM bills later. Please kindly advise. Thanks in advance.

Hi sevenor, welcome to the forums :). Would be great if we can get to know you more by introducing yourself in the Newbies Section :D

Bro what is the story regarding the photo posted above ?

hahahahahahahahahahahaha
that is what u get when u ask about honda in bmw forum. its like you asking to the devil: "which one is better between u and angel?" no need for me to give the answer la, you already know what the devil will says.

ha ha ha what a way to show how good an e60 is .... check light

bmw saks and honda tak guna............so get a toyota....but then again toyota got accelerator pobrem -->got recall campaign....get mercedes...naaaa.....nanti kena branded driver......audi?...spare part mahal nak mampos.....volvo......puhlease.....aiyahhh ....buy proton and call it a day lah!...

Frankly speaking, BMW is excellent for manouvering and "status" . in terms of reliability still lags behind the Japanese car (i would say generally). Maintenance also much more. (the average maintenance for my Camry is approx RM1k-2k per year but be prepared for up to 5 times more with a BMW)

Nevertheless, there are so many "Die hard" BMW fans here who always cried foul every time served with the maintenance bill. but ask them to change to Japanese marque is like asking a 16 year old virgin for one nite stand.

you have to decide for yourself what is your priority. if reliability and maintenance are your main concern, then choose Accord. but be prepared that you might feel "less kick" when you see BMWs driving around you. you would not understand why BMW owners always "take the long way home" until you have driven one yourself.

Note: in case you do not understand the phrase " take the long way home". it means the owners purposely drive a couple of miles more before they reach home because they enjoy their ride too much.

i owned accord 2.0 2007 and also 320i 2010.....as a new comer, i will say BMW is different and i enjoy drive it....same feeling like when i drove my old c200 before....now i just ask my wife to drive the honda...

BMW consist of many times more precisely engineered functional parts then a normal Honda. As such, more parts either mechanically/electronical means probability of failure higher. However, with proper maintenance regime in place, I would say BMW is just as reliable as Honda.

Honda 2.4liter make 180ps and BMW 2.5liter make 218bhp. How to squeeze the extra 38bhp is BMW's technology where you pay premium for it (plus some brand value). And German scale of power measurement is slight smaller and 218bhp = 221ps. Nowaway, it is very hard to find a rwd Japanese D-segment saloon car la. So fwd Vs rwd. Characteristics different also.

And IMHPO, the continental car's interior deterioration rate is much slower than Japanese car. My 8years old CKD BMW make much less noise than my 3.5 yrs old Honda Civic la.

Honda Accord has got its own characteristics and finally it is down to one's preference.

Well said bro.

I've lost count of the number of times I purposely took my car out for a spin just to enjoy getting behind the wheel.

She might be old, showing signs of clear coat failure and all, but yet, she has continued to serve me well. Almost clocking 250K miles soon.

Actually, to be honest, I kind of expected this to happen. Well, still better than nothing.

That reminds me of many years back when I had a VW Beetle that I would take a long drive round KL alone in the evening using LDP, Kesas Highway, MMR2 and back just for the fun of it. So I DO understand what it means by "take the long way home". Hehehehe...

Wow! Such big difference in power output! Happy to hear that!

Hahaha, I've almost forgotten BM is a RWD! The only RWD cars I had ever driven were Ford Escort and VW Beetle, both long time ago. :)

Good also to note that continental car's interior lasts longer also. :)

Thanks for your input.
