Mr Official Member,

Better stick to topic OK. I'll tell the headmaster RB to wall up you left, right and centre.

It's not how long your lens is, or how big your camera is, it's how you use it that matters! Hmm.. it applies to other things as well.

I just got myself a D90 and I am still learning to use it. Will be experimenting with it next week. I just hope it works well in sub-zero temperatures. Am mostly worried about condensation and battery life in very low temperatures.

Jeffphan - what brand SD card did you use that gave you problems? I am currently using Kingston 16GB SDHC (Class 4) for most shots, since it's cheap (RM110-120 each) and I have 4 of them (also shared with my Pentax point & shoot, and my laptop). For situations where I anticipate taking many shots in rapid succession, I'll be using the SanDisk 16GB Extreme III 30MB/s Edition (have 1).

The brand is some unknown called PQI, came FOC with the camera, but it's gone now. Should have used Sandisk in the 1st place. I have taken pics in near freezing condition, no condensation and battery issues...so far.

Reaper,

Let's get things straight. Whichever camera you plan to buy, bear in mind that you are not actually buying a camera. You are buying a system (lenses, flash and accessories). Once you stuck, you basically stuck forever. So, please think carefully. I prefer Nikon because of its special lens coating. In terms of mechanical stuff, Canon beats Nikon hands down. They are the leader in IS, SWM and what not. Their lenses can already focus very fast coupled with the latest image stabilizer technology when Nikon was still struggling to make a non-rotating barrel. That's why if you notice sports photographers prefer to use Canon. On the other hand, Nikon is a bit lagging when it comes to this stuff. That is not a major concern to me since I normally shoot landscapes and people. If you ask me, why Nikon? It is the lens. Canon makes everything from photocopier to printers. Nikon - strictly lenses (eyeglasses included).

Don't think 'which camera?', think 'which system?'.

Speaking of Canon vs Nikon, both have their own merits... However, of late, there are more migration from the white lense camp to the 'dark side'.... No thanks to the introduction of Nikon's Full Frame D3 and D700...

Great pictures come from great lens.
Who have better lens ? :)

16GB card should cost less then RM100.
D90 body is less than RM3100.
EOS 450D with 18-55 len is less than RM2600.

Cheers :)

Great pictures come from great lens. To a certain extent, it's a 'yes'. That is true for film cameras. For digital cameras the size of the sensor, type of processor, number of RGB channels, sharing channels or not - all play important role. They are as important as the lens selection.

Great pictures come from the eye of the photographer.... that's why give me RM30K camera oso I'll take crappy photos... ;)

There's no such thing as a crappy photo. My 5-year-old son takes nice photos as well because every photo tells a story. He could tell the reason why he took certain shots and I find them acceptable. What makes a difference is the quality of the prints - whether or not what you see on your computer screen matches with the final result. That's all. (now you need a good printer!)

haha... seem like you're just looking for someone to discuss about photography and not to do photography.. ;) anyway, if your son can take nice photos, that just showed that good photos comes from keen eyes and not the camera...(although good camera and lense help make it better and easier).. So what's all the talk about which latest camera to buy? Throw a pro a point and shoot and he will still give you nice photos. It's all in the eye.. Whether you have the image in your mind which you want to capture.

Yes, it's crucial that you go through the manual at least once because it really helps. Have fun with your new toy and hope to see some photos soon.
