Hi members,

I've been driving my e90 320i for about 4 months now. Noticed that my FC is usually high at 15.2 lit/100 km - unlike 10-12 lit/100 km on average. I have serviced and changed lots of mechanical parts (mechatronics / filters / coils / spark plugs / u name it i've changed it ) at yet it's getting progressively worse.

my last resort would be the software update . is there any help on those ?

i know FC is a hot topic and bmw's are never the best FC , but the case here is efficiency . my e85 2.5i can do better FC than my e90! (even though i'm comparing apples and durians ) .

appreciate your thoughts.

thanks!

Hi Tequilashots,

Things that can make a car thirstier than normal:

01) Dirty / clogged air filter
02) Incorrect ignition timing
03) Under-inflated tyres (higher rolling resistance)
04) Binding brakes
05) Leaking fuel injectors
06) Blowing exhaust system
07) Faulty MAF (mass air flow meter)
08) Faulty CTS (coolant temperature switch)
08) Faulty o2 sensor (Lambda)
09) Thermostat stuck open, or removed by some dodgy mechanic. Over cooled engine?
10) Split / perished vacuum hoses, engine drawing in unmetered air
11) Engine oil weight (e90 specs is 30w/40w EO, 30w will be more efficient but offers less protection)?

Best is go to workshop and get the computer readout. E90 has so many parameters that one can read out from the OBD scan so your mechanic should be able to tell why if the above checklist doesn't work for you.
