This tagline has been used more than often to describe the BMW. The E38 7 Series is the pinnacle of luxury in the late 90s.Which so happen to be the subject of the shoot; my dad, Vincent Hor, 1997 E38 728i. Its Metallic dark blue in colour with cream interior. It runs on stock 16inch rims.Is it the Ultimate Driving Machine?I think, having seen this car in action in numerous films such as Transporter, Tomorrow Never Dies and especially in BMW's own film series 'The Driver' featuring Clive Owen, the tagline is certainly more than justified. It was staggeringly difficult to photograph the car exterior wise as it was plain and stock. Fortunately, the interiors provided more photography opportunities. Comments and criticisms welcomed.

the E38 is without a doubt a man's car; and vincent, congrats again for owning such an excellent example.

Bro, thanks. When are you getting one?

Hi Vincent, manyak manyak cantik lho. Saya sudah tergoda , ingat mau jual saya punya E36, mau beli ini E38. 728 atau 740 ? anybody, pls advice, which is the best ? Terima Kasih.

In my opinion, go for the E38 728i with single vanos. Look for those "Import Baru" not recondition to avoid the nikasil issue. BTW the 728i single vanos shares the same engine with the E36 328i and E39 528i and using standard absorbers without EDC. So maintenance will be much more affordable.

I think the facelift model uses double vanos and EDC.

Hey Vincent,

Hope you are well

When viewing the E38 728,in your opinion ,what would be the key things to look out for and to ask the owner?
In addition I assume that a full service history is a must, even more so for this model due to the potential higher cost for maintenance of this model?

BTW - your new E38 looks beautiful, it looks like it just came out of the showroom:)

I am already dreaming about doing one up, AC bodykit, 18" rims, quad exhaust, tint to give it that mafia style look:) Yum

Some will have history of service and some will not. In most cases these cars are in decent condition. This model is usually owned by professionals or educated businessman.

The M52 engine is known for it's reliability and thoughness. I was told that g/box for the E38 728i is also very reliable.

Better get one that is stock standard. Big wheels look nice but in my opinion that's just about it. It affects the handling. It affects the comfort and it causes premature wear of suspension components. Mind you there are not cheap.

In my opinion being a car of that stature, we don't need those big wheels to make a statement. BTW the tyres wears fast and they are very expensive. I would rather pay more for a good set of 16" tyres than to compromise on the tyres for a set of 18 or 19" tyres.

E38 parts may cost more but I think they do last as long as we don't abuse it's usage.
