Yup agreed. Thats why Japs car got turbo to compensate lower engine capacity. For NA engine BMW higher cc will produce more torque. Remap may increase also but heard it will go back to normal if change battery (not sure). Is there any piggyback that can be use ie unichip for BMW?

...there is bro ...but so far I come across one made by Hartge but only to accommodate the diesel .....:top:

Thank you loafer!! at last some light!!

Guys, gear ratio DO NOT change the power of your Engine!

Torque and HP is a same derivation from the Newton Law. Anything below 5250RPM in your car is done by torque and hp only takes over after that. This is the holy grail of F=MA. Easiest way to prove this is look at any Dyno chart. HP will always intersect Torque (lb.ft) at 5250rpm.)

Understanding this law of physic, you will understand that changing gear ratio is only changing the range of acceleration within a certain speed range.

So, come back to basic, still so replacement for displacement!!

To me it's not a temporary solution but rather a cheaper solution to better acceleration. To have better acceleration, you need higher torque. To get higher torque at the engine is not cheap. Bigger displacement or higher compression ratio requires new engine internals. As for engine remapping, most of the time the power band is shifted to the right, with little gains in torque.

Now the rear differential acts as a torque multiplier. You can basically increase the amount of torque delivered to the wheels by using a shorter ratio, ie; from 3.64 to 3.91 which gives you about 7.4% increase in torque!! The downside is the your range is also reduced but as I said earlier our cars are over geared and the key here is to ensure you have sufficient gearing to hit top speed.

Bundy,

Would you mind elaborate what you meant by "power band is shifted to the right"?

Thanks

i think it means your RPM cut-off point is raised, shifting the entire power curve (and max bhp point) to the right on the dyno chart.

this reminds me of my cute economics professor.. :)

a remap does not necessary move the powerband to the 'right', it depends very much on what is the stock/current tune for the particular car/engine.
But a change to a more advanced timing camshaft will definitely move the powerband to the 'right'...

I heard Mercedes is using new CGi technology which is able to churn out higher power and torque with lower cc.
data comparison :
old E240 2,597cc with 130kw and 240 torque
new E200 CGi 1,796cc with 135kw and 270 torque
1.8 litre more powerful than 2.6 litre, How true is this?

TURBO CHARGER = CGi

How true is this? Very true.

would that means Mercedes is now using power to compete with BMW? that kind of power is better than 318!

all european car manufacturer are down sizing their engine capacity, to meet with the strict EU automotive emission regulation. But power output is one of the main factor that sells a car. So they compensate the loss of displacement with modern turbo technology instead... It's not just about competing with BMW alone. But with the rest of the field. That's business bro.

It's also more efficient compared to leaving the engine NA. One of the reasons why BMW is going down the psshhh psshhhh path now.

BMW is also currently going towards the 4potter Turbo way now... everyone down sizing displacement
