Being a diesel buff ( have a C270 CDI and S320 CDI) am thinking of maybe getting a DIESEL E60 525d or 530d. Are the any diesel owners here who might like to contribute some reviews on these cars ? I'm sure there are others here who would also like to know. Thanks in adv !!

i have a 525d since march 2006.
I got at least 2 friends with 530d.
One of them has the "F1" edition...comes with DynamicD,Bucket Seats.

What u need to know?
Diesel Engine very torquey, low consumption (RM100=750-800KM City).
However, outside noisy and inside feel slight vibration on idle.
Also shorter service interval (15k KM)

I have driven diesel in Germany many times.
I am happy to be an owner of one.
Never will switch back to petrol since petrol price going up...

Well, specifically, have there been any problems with the car ? My C270 CDI has had its turbo changed under warranty in it 1st 2 years of warranty, then also the cats, then fuel lines had to be replaced after 3 years because they were cracking and letting air in and the car could not start and had to be towed.
With my S320 CDI, cats were also changed under warranty and also something called the exhausper (?). Any such things with BM oilers ?

was told the exact same problem with cdi variants... hence i went and get 530d as a company car.. has done 40k++ without issues, except idrive black-out..

Well so far no issues.
Both my friends' cars are already more than 3 years.
So far no complain from them on need to cchange turbo or fuel line.

Mine is at 53k km. Still running fine.
On the IDRIVE blackout, are u using the Bluetooth?
I experienced it a few times, traced it to the Bluetooth.
Also u should get ur IDRIVE firmware updated. It helps too.
Besides the Blackout, u might notice your CD music affected
with the bluetooth. It will hang everything and need to restart the car
after 30mins,then it will be alright.
I got my firmware updated and bluetooth module changed.
So far so good.

i believe the 530d will offer better options and good resale value later..

the torque on the 3.0d is awsome.. with the shark chip, the torque is ++550nm

bro.... call me.There's sumthin that I need to tell youabt ur 530d.

A friend and fellow forummer[I am not sure if he wants to be named :)], who is a very enthusiastic driver, fried his 530d turbocharger and got it replaced under warranty.

so how did he fried his 530d?
just curious...

I oso know abt that....happened to a friend up north. BMW rectified the problems.:)

I own the 530d .... the car already 2 years with 70,000 KM done. So far no issues.

Those diesel owner, what type of diesel you are using and how frequent you put the additive to the diesel?

Done more then 100,000km on my d.
Did not put in additive just plain Petronas Diesel.
So far okay.
Previously, repaired a manifold problem and now experiencing the 2nd to 1st gear jerking thats all. Is changing the ATF the best solution for this problem?

I've drove my 530d since '05 and yes, I freakingly in love with the car torque......I've done about 80k plus km up-to-date.

Personally, its a good car but i've faced few prob right after the warranty period. So far I've changed the manifold (100% disc), control unit (50% disc) and recently they've changed starter (100% disc), +ve batt cable (? % disc) and soon pdc unit - so called future prob (? % disc).

It is blardy expensive maintaining the BMW diesel model in Malaysia (no complains due to car performance) cause only AB, i believe, could handle / professionally maintain the car, infact due to couple of times my car cant start, they've been communicating with BMW AG for assistance, as they claimed. Currently, my car still in Glenmarie ICU, still waiting for the PDC parts from Germany.

Feel sorry for you boydf, since your problems came up right after warranty period...

Is BMW extended warranty available in Malaysia?

Would Auto Bavaria entertain cars that are used imports ie. cars that WERE NOT sold by them?

Many thanks

i will definitely go for diesel engine if the government introduce at least Euro II diesel....at the current diesel price, they should....
the high sulpher content really no good for the latest diesel engine & the catalyst converter...

FORGE My wife's Merc E270 cdi 2004 model never had any problems. She insisted on sending her car only to Daimler Chrysler. On the other hand a colleague of mine who had a BMW 530 diesel develop problems. Expensive mah to repair for 1 year now and then at sunway mechanics. But his car became very reliable after sending his car to auto bavaria. Perhaps from what i learned is better to send these german cars to the genuine& trained service personnel at their fully equipped service centres than those ching cheong fun mechanics who pretend to be ex-mb or bmw mechanics.

NKC8 Sulphur in diesel in euro III is much lower but primarily for environmental reasons. As an engineer myself, it is not so much the sulphur that wreak havoc on the car but rather the high humidity and impurities combination that can cause the need for regular maintenance. Do not skimp on unknown brand oils/fluids. Sometimes at the kiosk, you can notice some mud and dirt at the nozzle brim.

I heard that government is introducing Euro II this year at different price...the sulphur is < 500ppm.
High sulphur ( now max 3000ppm) is harmful (corrosion) for IC engine and Catalyst Converter for sure.
But dont know which brand is better in the market now

To tell the truth, I'd rather pay at current diesel price with EURO IV standard due to the long term variable cost incurred maintaining the EURO IV standard diesel engine car. Although 500ppm sound better than 3000ppm, bare in mind that its only environmental friendly ( green engine anyway) rather than diesel engine maintenance friendly.

But as far as the car is concern, I think, in Europe the e60 diesel cars are fitted with diesel filter unlike diesel's car here due to high sulphur contains which can cause blockage within the filter itself, well could cost us a bomb in a short period of time. If Malaysia were to introduce the EURO III or perhaps EURO IV, do we need to install these filter?

Currently, I'm using petronas diesel since got advice from "C" (well known local car journalist) as compared to other brands. Tried with latest diesel from shell, doesnt make any diff in terms of savings....

My neighbor got 530 (e60) diesel since last year August 08. No problem. Everyday he goes to work. I agree with K. Only send your bm to authorized places only.

I have a Brabus D4, lately its been squeaking when I pull away and sometime when the car stops. Anyone having a similar problem with a BMW or Merc diesel? Thinking of down grading to a 520d now!
