I couldn't agree more.

For me, whenever it rains, my streamyx connection goes kaput. Called their helpline and was
told the fault was maybe due to " the cables were wet"???!!! WTF!!! I was thinking to myself,
are your cables made from paper?:stupid:

The strange thing was, after the rain stopped and the rain dried up, the bloody thing worked
again. Hmmm...I'm speechless.

I wonder if we have difficulty firing missiles when need be.. press button but no response because Streamyx delay..

You're not alone on this one. Alot of my friends, especially those in Subang area suffers from the same fate.

Subang USJ6, year 2003/2004 I will experience this during the rainy days. But not anymore.

Not sure what you guys whinning about : I use IDM to download all I need . Always exceed my 1Mb package . 200 kBps sometimes , 180kBps is average .................

Browse internet depend on server, user capacity and all of those limitation factor.By judging the way some site response not tell the speed you are getting.

I took up the promotion by Wimax now and they give you free testing for 2 weeks. no need to pay anything upfront and i brought home their wireless modem. so far , it's better much than streamyx now that internet connection is sketchy in malaysia. i'm leaning towards getting it. cost about the same with my streamyx at rm99 per month.

I urge you all to consider. You can return it if not satisfied.

Speedtest.net gave me about 1120 kbps vs streamys 800-900 kbps. check your location

TMNet uses Mbps as their unit of measurement, which means at the transfer speed you're getting, you should be on the 1.5Mbps line.

Most people are paying for 1Mbps right now, but instead they're getting 1.5Mbps due to an upgrade exercise done quite some time ago. Also the 1.5Mbps isn't official listed as a plan on the Streamyx website.

Check your router/modem because that will tell you your true speed the modem is synced at.

P.S (There is no way you can exceed the capped speed at the DSLAM).

OH I FORGOT. BMWCM's General Discussions forum can only be used to discuss BMW related stuff. Ok we'll take our discussion elsewhere.....

Or maybe because we didn't include references of other ISPs in our discussion?

Wireless is still bad for online gaming. Not so sure how WiMax will fare compared to the conventional wireless networks. Never a fan of wireless so wasn't too bothered to find out about it.

For me I'm still waiting anxiously for ADSL2+ :) Hopefully in the next 5 years la LOL!

haha loafer loafer.

has threadstarter solved his problem by posting here?
has the speed improved since? no? has he changed ISPs?

by tomorrow, once the network is back to normal (I hope so too), will he post up and say oh ya, speed is back to normal? :)

if I were in his position, considering who he is, write and complain or get a rebate. I think that is more effective than posting here.

I have complained about streamyx before too. But I call up the appropriate numbers and get them to come and diagnose. They fixed the problem and I have no problems since. My neighbour did the same (He has a 4MB dedicated SOHO line). I told him to call Streamyx and within 12 hours they came and solved the problem. Happy camper since. Oh ya, he also has wifi with no password. So, I sometimes curi2 to download at fast speeds. Hehe....

Eppy new year....

I think the undersea cable snap issue is just another excuse that TMnut use to cover their own backside. If the connections slow to Europe, MiddleEast or even US I can accept are due to the fiber cable issue; but what about the ridiculously slow access to even local sites within Malaysia ?? Especially even to thier supposely own "internal" sites like www.tm.net.my or www.streamy.com that hosted "within" their local network? The same local network that our Streamyx DSL connected to. It shouldn't be effected by the oversea cable right ? Don't tell me the local traffics will be rerouted to Europe or US then come back again, right?

Someone pls correct me if I am wrong.

Maybe our circuit is like economy flight, many stops, transits and through Gaza.. Direct flight take 20 hours, we take 60 hours to reach LA.. :p

SLOWmyx.. SUFFERmyx.. :(

The provider is very smart, whatever they say you are signing up to, just a gimmick because in reality, its on best effort basis..

Yep... been complaining to 1-300-88-9515 pretty frequently.. and its a waste of time. All they do is to proof to u that there's internet connection.. regardless of speed. If you complain slow, they will ask you to upgrade the line. My experience is you will only get about 30% throughput. If u need a true 1Mbps speed, make sure u sign up for a 3Mbps line.. :p

I just ran this test using my 1Mbps fixed IP corporate line during off peak hour..

HOPELESS!!

Did the test and the results seems ok but am still finding Streamyx bloody slow!

Guys, this isn't the right place to discuss or pen down your frustrations as affan said. Make sure you use the forum for what it really is for...discussi......

...oops...I mean to write stuff...and talk about BMW..also if you have problems with BMW, don't complain in the forums. Make sure you call the right number and make yourself heard. If whoever you called to complain to doesn't care about your problem, too bad so sad.

So, those of you who don't like Streamyx or have issues with Streamyx...please do as affan66 said and call the right people and channel your frustration there.

lol. boys, i laughed after reading this thread.the streamyx dpmnt is just 7 floor up from my office.
and yes, i dont deny it sucks. especially during rainy days. cause im living in USJ 2, and i dont know y i got dc oftenly during rains. what my younger bro did with this prob is, he bought a better modem router from low yat, configured it himself and we use IDM for all our downloads. So, we dont really get effected with streamyx's cable prob.
No point in blaming 'made in malaysia' products, we are lack in technology anyway.

so, has the network improved?
Mine has improved significantly when I checked last night. Or people don't bother... ;)

If we have time to post on BMWCM, why not spend a few minutes to call up or even better, write in to MCMC or the PM's office's public complaints bureau. Yes, there are deadbeats there who can't do the job, but if you don't complain properly, they'll still be there... however, if they are doing a good job, please do the same. Malaysians love to complain, but giving compliments, susah sekali :)

yaa...mine has improved as well. but not as good as b4....but much better than the previous month.
