Squeaking sound from new brake pads

Hi All,I've just replaced my front brake pads with original purchasedfrom Bavarian Auto. The funny thing is that I noticed squeaking sounds when the car is moving and the sounds stops as soon asI depress the brake paddle. When I lift it off, sound returns and it'sgetting into my nerves. The service guys had removed them and didsome sanding and light cleaning with pressurized air but it didn't helpmuch. Does anyone experience this before and what seems to be the problem?Any help is appreciated.

I have the same issues with my ori rotor and textar pads. Sad to say issue is caused by the pad as sound is gone once I replaced with ATE

Thanks AS for your feedback, but my pads are ori BMW. I didn't opt for
OEM because brake system should not be altered for safety reasons, IMO.

here what I got from E46fanatic

My 2004 OEM pads say Textar T4147 on them and have a BMW logo! I have purchased Textar T4147s for less than $60 without the BMW logo and cannot tell a difference.
Just make sure they are T4147. I used OEM rotors since I like the grey rust coating.

I have tried Jurid pads also after a German mechanic recommended them. He likes them because they never squeal and they are quiet so his customers like it.

He was correct, in my parking structure the Jurid pads are quieter, you don't hear the subtle growl at low speed like you do with Textar and BMW pads. I would recommend the Jurid pads for the wife's car. Never squealed, super quiet and less brake dust HOWEVER the Jurid pads did not have the same cold "bite" like OEM. If you got them hot, they felt the same as OEM but when cold, they don't bite as well. At first I thought I have to break them in, then later I started to wonder if my booster was losing vaccum. I swapped the pads back to Textar and the cold bite was back.

Now keep in mind that this was a very, very, very subtle difference in cold bite so if you drive an automatic and like nice quiet brakes, low brake dust, the Jurids were nice. Overall, I am back to OEM or Textars now. I have had some slight squeal every now and then and a slight growl in a quiet parking structure but the performance for me outweighs that.

So bottom line, stay with OEM BMW or Textars T4147 for rear, Textar T4146 for front. Also, keep in mind that rotors also affect friction. I use OEM BMW rotors on my test or ATE rotors. I have had bad luck with Brembo rotors in the past where the metal felt different and even after putting OEM pads, they didn't perform as well.

Of course this is model specific, Brembos had been fine in the past for me, just the E46 brakes are so balanced and good that you shouldn't mess with a good thing. Textars T4147 and T4148 are the way to go. Save $40 per set and they are identical as far as my testing goes to BMW OEM.

Hi all, i just replace full set (4 tyres)' brake pads and rotor today. Sad to say, previously I use BMW original rotor but textar pads (BMW ori pads is not textar, BMW ori pad is double the price to textar). My ori rotor being "eaten" by textar pad really fast, I use it roughly 1 year (less than 25k km mileage), even the scars are deep and cannot do the skimming at all. After the replacement, really feel nice, the ori pad is soft and the feel when you press the brake is different feel with textar pad.... I have to use all ori part to compare what's the life spent and durability, different between ori and oem by paying the "DOUBLE" price...

I had same Issue and i asked Khoo from Sunway to get me Original Brembo Pads from Taiwan when he went there as it is considered Cheap. When i installed the pads i have this probs, after all the Sanding and all, it still Happens. Even i was going to MMZ Bro Irfan heard the Squeaking Sound from Afar! I also lost RM 1,800.00 as the said Original Brembo pads from Taiwan is still lying there at his Work Shop and i need to pay another 1k plus for new Hawk Pads :stupid:

There a quick solution. .. swap your pad (left with right) and do air spray the brakes weekly or whenever u visit your fav workshop. Sound is gone after I did that.

Yupp it works!! You will be surprised how much dust accumulated within a week of regular drive when you blow the disc with highpressure air gun at the workshop. The brake cleaner help further to reduce the noise.

Those with brake squealing should try bedding in their brakes. Not sure if it was done or not but it is necessary for your brake system to function properly and it should eliminate squealing.

In reference to the TS, the mechanic may not have fully depressed the caliper piston back into its bore after changing your pads and they could be constantly be touching your discs slightly causing the squealing while the brake pedal is not depressed. When you depress the brake pedal, it allows the pad to make full contact eliminating the squealing. Either remove the pads and fully seat the pistons or follow the brake pad bedding in procedure. The bedding in will remove excess pad material and could give your brakes the necessary clearance between the pads and calipers.

To those who are having issues with Textar pads, be careful as there are many fakes in our market. Stock, OEM pads should not squeal. Only race pads will squeal. Have installed textars on my E34 and my brothers E46 with no problems.

Val, correct me if I am wrong but you are running M5 brakes with Khoos discs right?

You shouldn't be having any problems with brake squeal if they were bedded in correctly though especially since you are not using race/track pads. From what I read, it only squeals when the brake pedal is not depressed?

An update : Problem Solved
Today when to Bimmerholic and they took out the
pads and grind the edges with an electric grinder.
Installed back and no more sound.
It seems that the pad edges are rubbing against the
disk and thus the squeaking noises. Cost me RM90
for labour.
