Can normal tires be mounted to the existing stock mini rims? If yes, wouldn't it be scary not having a spare tire just in case of a flat? This really worries me alot. :(

Then you might wanna try carrying a can of tire sealant as well.

"RUN FLAT TIRES NEED ADVICE"

Simple bro : When your tires are flat ... YOU Run hard to the tyre shop.

Thanks for the input guys. Hope they work for all puncture sizes not only small ones. Which brand of sealant should I look for?

You can always get the repair kit from AB, comes with the sealant and the pump.. I think so. B)

Thanks bro. I'll check with them :)

Run Flat tyre mean the Tyre come with latest Design and Tecnology...The tyre look flat with ur rim and Side wall are built with Harder compound.
Run Flat tyre=When ur tyre are "puncit"/leaking,u still can drive 100km-150k away with 80km/h before the tyre Gone/Faulty...

This is what I think...

Since tubeless tyres days, I have not done road side flat tyre replacement for all the nails and screws that stuck on my tyres from one inch nail to 3 inches screws.

The reason is simple, as long as the sharp object is still on the tyre, it will slow down the escaping air and in most cases, I can continue to use the cars for days or even weeks!

I make it a point on taking visual inspection on all 4 tyres before getting into the car and drive, every time. If I notice flabby tyres, I will get to a near by petrol kiosk to pump the soft tyres and to see if sharp object stuck on the tyres. If yes, then hit straight to the tyre shop to get them to remove the object and patch the tyre there and then. Done!

As for car pre-fitted with RFT, the tyre pressure indicator still works ma. So u can still monitor the pressure from the cabin and u should get a warning if under inflate. That's the first symptom of suggesting ur tyre might have punctured by sharp object. Get it inspect immediately before its flat.

So really, we don't need RFT, even without spare. Unless ur life is risking people shooting at u with a gun, then better stick to RFT! :D

would repairs to the tires(run flats or not) compromise safety?or once theyre flat just replace them for peace of mind?

All repaired tyres would compromised safety. I never use repaired tyres at my front. Always keep them as spare or use at the rear.

agree with astroboy. we are so used to carrying a spare tyre so much so we think its really necessary.. when the time comes to use it, sometimes the spares flat la, tayar dah bengkak la, wife drove the car & don't know how to change la, last last panggil road assist jugak...

Oh crap, the Run Flat warning indicator came up in my dash few days ago, so I tot I can just pump it and then continue driving. But today, the warning came up again!! So does that mean it needs to go to the workshop already??

My car is under warranty, can I go back to Autobavaria to get it fixed? If not, where should I go to? Thanks!

i think the concern here if not using RFT is that u might need to get the punctured tyre changed at, say along the emergency lane on the N-S hiway..which is a very scary experience nowadays !!!
ppl say "malang tak berbau" so better be safe than sorry !!

Quickflyer,
Is your run-flat-tire indicator 'on' just at the beginning and go off while u drive, but the small triangle 'DSC' indicator will keep on in yellow?
If this is the case, don't worry. I think I experienced that before, and Grace said it's common problem. Just send it to Autobavaria for your warranty claim. They said this is because of my active steering device go wrong, and they need around 1 week to fix it(waiting for part).

Hi guys! Am new to the forum and bought few units of BMW's lately. Anyway here are the questions on the Run Flat tyres.

1) The ride quality is very very bumpy especially on my new 325ci 120i Sport! Can i change the tyres to normal or should i continue on Run Flat?

2) The intrusion noise when we drive is very bad is it bcoz the the Run Flat again?

Throw out the RFTs and get normal tyres with a repair kit :). Another disadvantage with RFTs is that due to the stiff sidewalls, its not recommended for multiple mount's and remounts on the wheel e.g. for patching and repairs, as the tyre can start to crack on the sidewals.

Normal tyres are cheaper, more comfy and lighter.

hahah i already had the bad experience yesterday ...here is my story begin....just to share...

i went to birmingham to watch all england badminton tournament..(support malaysia)..on the way back to my place in north Wales ( approx 200 miles far )...my tyre began to flat slowly..leaking..i thought must be sharp object punctured into my tyre..i was doing 100 miles /h and my steering extremely hard push me to the left..then the sign from my computer display pops up so i slow down..i dont know whether it is bad luck or good luck coz when the tyre flat, i just only 1 miles from the service..so i just drove slowly to the service station ( R & R macam itu lah)..then later i check my spare wheels..no luck, my spare tyre ran flat as well coz sudah lama tak guna ( cuaca sejuk snow -5C at my place )..then i call for AA to tarik my car..but they want to charge me 495 pounds ( = RM3000 ):stupid: lmao tooo expensive ( of course lah its already 12.30am )..deperate to settle the problem ( coz very tired suara pon sudah takde sokong malaysia boleh ) so had tried my luck call the nearest garage..and lucky one of garage team on the motorway about 40 miles from the service R & R...waited for about 4 hours then the tyre man came...he said he doesnt have my tyre to replace..coz im using 255/30/r19 which is very rare ( unless i go to the tyre shop )...then he checked the tyre..he said coz of my low profile tyre, the heat from my 19" wheels has made my valve seal melt..so the air leaking from the valve coz before this my tyre only familiar with cold weather..so the valve already crack inside coz of the wheather..hahaha first time experience..nasib baik he brought his tyre machine in his big van..he then charged me 90 pounds (rm600) coz overnight job...what a pain...

my advice today is:listen: ..dont just change your tyre..keep check your valve when u using a low profile tyre..keep change the valve when u change new tyre..eventhough there is no snow in malaysia..but anything can happen if u are not prepare enough :p..that will make you more confident for long travel/ journey especially when u tavel alone!!! pancit tepi kubur baru tau:eek: !!!heheheheh:rock:

just to share my bad experience with u all since it just happened yesterday..sob2...

Thanks for sharing, my practice is on every change of tyre, which equates to about 60k km or 2 years plus, I sure request for new valves, which doesn't cost more than RM5 per piece.

When was the last time u replace the valves? Melt? Me don't think so, its should be crack of old age.. :D

he travelling @ 160 kmh / 100 mph le. must b really thin tires

What u talking? My 1.3 Avanza with 185/70R14 also can do 160kph la.. but tyre speed rating is limited to 180kph la.. after which risk of tyre spinning out from the rim... MERDEKA!! :D
