Hey thr guys...can any1 tell if thr is a way to reduce the hydrolic lifters sound..i was told that it is possible but i amyet to find out...be more than glad to know...

Change to new lifters. It is the only way. Your M40 uses hydraulic lifters and these are not servicable items.

*psssst: If the driver loses a few pounds, there will be less load on the engine......*cabutz*

interviewed one of our own member some more....

i wonder who is that????

cabuttzzzz..........

Try STP from USA. It help even to the worst case; worn out piston rings. But in this case not permanently lar..

Cheers

If its knocking hard(rattling during cold start) change the hydraulic lifters. Using additives or changing to thicker wt oil won't change the situtation.

its definately not a permenant solution but it helps for about 3000km so which means for every oil change ...... well i amgoin to try the Nasa/Badhall hopefully it works...hehehe
I have the same problem and have tried all kind of solutions... b waiting for your finding of that Nasa/Badhall.
Keep on update...

snake, i believe the lifter sound has nothing to do with it, in other words, the hidraulic lifters are fine..it's your drag lever worned or the oil pipe feeder above the lifters clog..

regards.

apaprently using mineral oils help..thats from a friend who also drives an E30 with the M40b16 engine...

personally, when they rattle, its time to change the lifters..besides, they dun get changed that often.. i've changed them once and its been 50000km..still no death rattle..;)
