For plasma, the Pioneer is still da best and the price hasn't come down a single bit even tho LCDs are getting better and cheaper! Some AV afficiniados still prefer Plasma over LCD.

i totally agree wif you bro...the pioneer is in a class of its own...the best..panasonic and sony cannot compare..and u r right..price still around 18k for 42 inches

There will be a comparo between Plasma vs. LCD in tomorrow's The Star under Audiofile section. Chekkid out!

The other manufacturer than can come close to Pioneer is Hitachi. Check out the Hitachi 42PD8800TA. Pretty awesome stuff with 1024x1024 and ALIS technology. Brightness and Contrast Ratio pretty impressive. See to believe it. Price is about 17999. :D

I am still waiting for the price to drop before I commit on a plasma.

Does anyone have any experience with the "Plaxio" brand of plasma TV? Was introduced by a friend and the price is quite reasonable. Claimed they are using parts from Samsung / LG....

most LCD and plasma TVs manufacturers (assemblers more like it) get their LCD and plasma screens from Korea, i.e. LG and/or Samsung.

The thing that you gotta check is the specifications like contrast ratios, screen resolutions. Some of these are cheap but they are outdated screens. Some are okay and want to break the market share, so they sell cheap.

I've seen the Plaxio during the last AV show. I would say so-so only. It is cheap and fits the purpose for normal viewing. Do test with Asstro signal if that is what you are going to use it mostly because LCD/plasma output tends to look crappy with Asstro.

The newer batches of LCD TVs have improved a lot and the introduction of the Sony Bravia series actually stirred the market a bit and saw a big reduction in the 26"-34" LCD TVs, moving closer to Singapore prices.

Flash, if you need help in choosing, give me a call. I can help you shop but as usual, pay with your own wallet. :D

I'll be looking for one or two when I move to your neighborhood end of this year ;)

Affan, even my SONY Wega looks crappy with ASTRO or for that matter when I brought it home.

Thanks affan. Much appreciated. But I think I will go with the mainstream brands. Sigh, I do not have much time like before to really delve into audio video nowadays. I do miss those days of yonder where I have the time to test the products before making my purchase. Nowadays, it is more like, I see it, I like it at that time and I buy it.... and have to depend on reviews by others. :D

Just wanna share ... for plasma... only 3 manufacturers in world producing the display panels ... Panasonic + LG & Samsung... simply means, brands like sony, pioneer, hitachi and etc.. they have to get the panels from these 3 suppliers.. MEANS again... if plan to get 1 or more, try selecting the 3 mentioned names 1st...
HAPPY Searching.. !!

forgotten the another economical guide.....buy it when the competition stiffs....baru ada discount :D
