hi; recently got lost big time in kl. am contemplating a pda gps like an asus a696. but which software, mapking or aegis has better or accurate updated maps? has anyone of you here had experience with aegis? and where to get "free" updated malaysian maps? thanks.

been using mapking12. very helpful and accurate so far. as a registered user (if u get a dopod (SiRFIII chip) u'll automatically entitled to 1 regional map of your choice), u'll get periodic map updates foc.

if u which to instal it on other makes, there's also some sites that offer free updated maps maintained by web enthusiasts (e.g. www.malsingmaps.com) in G10 format.

1 thing for sure, u wont get lost with gps at ya palm..hahaha

Any guru can recommend a gps device that can be used with our own PDA?

i use the Holux GPS Slim 240 paired with my O2 Xda2i, i am using the wonderful maps from Malsing which i believe has no rival in terms of accuracy for routing. They also have all the fave 'makan' hotspots built in the maps. I bought it from the internet about RM450/=.

Thanks bro dvng for the info. :) Btw, can a device like that be used with both PDAs and PDA phones? Mine is a PDA but not a PDA phone. Cheers!

DA,

I agree with caylon, mapking does work well. Was using the dopod GPS / PDA. Its just that it doesnt function when we have heavy clouds and when it rains. I heard the more dedicated GPS systems that is attached to your car is far more efficient and the screens bigger too. The problem I had with mine is that it constantly loses connection. anyways Pujiess is in an way right lah... get down and ask for directions better.. hahahaha. Hope I've helped

hmmm... since we are the topic of GPS and PDA......am actually thinking of getting one with these following functions:

1) an actual PDA (not phone first function thingy then PDA)
2) GPS (good receiver)
3) something i can surf the net with (a IE or Netscapr or Mozilla support or watever that I can do some online trading with and forum browsing)
4) WIFi inbuilt
5) all the secondary etc etc loh... :D

Got ah such a thingy?

i like the asus a696, very very slim with built-in gps chip. but doesn;t come with mapking, only aegis. yeah, i heard malsingmaps is very good and updated but only supports mapking and garmin. is there any workaround to make malsingmaps supported on aegis? or perhaps any "free" mapking software somewhere?

a friend of mine demonstrated garmin gps with nuvi with malsingmaps. very impressive!!! and for sure i won't get lost again in kl! :D

mmm.... yeah... please do a review for all of us. :D

that thingy come with 3G one or not?

dont do the PDA/GPS combo!! the pda batt will not last the day if you use it to nav as well as phone or internet.

i used the garmin and it's a standalone ..damn good.

nokia has a phone/gps too but it's crap.

good luck!
