Original rims now made in China?

Heard from a source that many BMW and Mercedes materials for interior and exterior components are sourced from China and then shipped back to Germany for final assembly and packaging. Is this true? If this is the case, what's the difference between getting original and replicas other than better quality control since both are sourced from the same country?

It is not about quality control ...its about quality!!!
replicas can look like the original, and in some cases are perhaps better finished than the originals but what about safety tolerances , materials and quality of raw materials.
