have anyone have encounter this problem before? i heard all M52 engine before year 98 is come with Nikasil bore....which is not so relaible due to low quality gasoline. eventually BMW abandoned its Nikasil coating and replace it with Aluminium. how to replace it or change it when this thing occurs?

our cars here should not have any problem as we have been enjoying a sweet blend all this while.

cars in europe and US or anywhere else with heavy sulfur content will have trouble with them.

Bro, you mean in M'sia we dont have this thing happen due the petrol quality are better or the component that BMW used for M'sia market are different?

Thanks for the information ... :)

the petrol we get from our pumps are of a higher quality blend with less sulfur and acidic content, so its no problem for us here.

in other countries, notably the US, the petrol there is soooo bad that BMW doesnt even release any m52 with nicasil blocks there, they have been using cast iron blocks from the start as a precautionary step to prevent a big hole from burning into their pockets just by replacing the engine with better liners. a good lesson they've learn from the m60 v8 engine with nicasil block previously used in the e34 and e32 there.

nicasil were phased out soon after and replaced with alusil engines at the later stage.

I think nikasil-lined M52 blocks were not released here too in Malaysia, for the locally assembled models at least
